My engines have conventional (modern) as opposed to traditional (Bld-A-Loco) electronics. They are mostly reproductions from MTH and the Lionel Classics effort of the late 1980s. Actual restored versions from the 1930s are outrageous.
With the exception of uncoupling (forget about it), they are easy to move around on the layout. The reverberation of sound in the pressed steel bodies and gleam of the baked on enamel make them a treat to hear and see.
I think what I like most is the appearance in motion. Like many artsy things from the 1930s (some cartoons come to mind), they are a caricature of reality, emphasizing that which is visually impressive in the eyes of a child. In the same way that Mickey Mouse has three fingers, these trains do not pretend to acurately represent reality. Thus, they define their own form.

Yeah, Tramp, agreed. Lousy joke. Nobody'd EVER confuse you with a company dick. Guess your hat was just too white.
Some of my humor sputters in the air. This one never even got off the ground. Matter of fact, it crashed and burned in the hangar.
On second inspection, you actually look good up there. That pic might be suitable for framing!
