The devil is in the details...that said, I tweaked my RR track plan for a year before laying a single piece of track. And even then just as you've mentioned in prior posts, I still had to make a few adjustments because of the discrepancy between software and real life. And oh by the way, I've had my share of oh s*** moments. Keep messaging things until they are the way you want them. I'm enjoying your journey immensely.

Yeah, my RR-Track plan went through dozens of versions before I laid any track as well. And it has been greatly modified over the years. There really is a difference between the real world and the software. In fact, my friend (the one who has been helping me) and I had a debate over the track geometry "solution" I think I've found. He's skeptical (and rightly so) of the software solution. Saturday, I took physical pieces of track and laid them down in rough approximation of the solution and it "looked" good, but I've got to confirm that. My clearances are very tight; fortunately GarGraves track allows you to fudge things if necessary. He uses AtlasO track which is not so forgiving, hence his concern.

I appreciate the encouragement. It really helps. Sometime I get in the trap of thinking it should all flow perfectly the first time. Only Mozart wrote symphonies and operas (in all parts) from start to finish without mistakes. I am not Mozart.   Thanks!

I find that I enjoy the correspondence and camaraderie of the forum as much as the layout building. :!:

I get inspiration from other layouts as well. It helps keep me moving forward. I discovered that when it came to those "adjustments" that flex track was my friend. And like your friend I'm using Atlas track, but I found a nice rail bender to make life easier. Keep moving forward, but have fun too.

OK, here's the wiring plan for controlling an MTH PRR signal bridge (30-11030) from both an insulated rail and by throwing a switch. This uses 2 DZ-1008a relays. The first (top-most) is what has been in place and working for nearly 7 years. The bottom one, which is attached to the switch machine, should also be able to activate the signal.

George,

I am not capable of making any useful comment other that it's pretty. Blow it up and put it on the wall of your layout room. :D

My, you are helpful today.

I just revised my to-do list and I've got lots more things to do before I consider that. Besides, it's not that pretty.

Updated 1/21/2016:

A huge snowstorm is expected for the area beginning Friday after 6:00 PM EST. Anywhere from 8"-12" have been predicted for the evening into Saturday. I hope it happens. I need to get going on the Panhandle. So far this week, life and work have gotten in the way of any true progress.

We're supposed to get at least 12" and could be up to double that. Maybe this will help me with this sleep disorder that I have where I wake up and go to work.

As long as you don't (a) lose power, and (b) run out of supplies, this could be a good weekend to make some significant headway. Just make sure you shovel every couple hours or so...

I hear you George. C'mon big snow! I need some time downstairs too. Clearing the snow isn't a problem, I have a big, nasty machine that'll throw it into my neighbors yard very easily!

Yeah, I am really ready for the weekend / big snow storm.
  • Andy, that downtime is very welcome. I've got to make some progress. That "to-do" list is huge and order of work is important.
  • I got gas for the snow blower. Hope it starts.
  • Martin, I have that same sleep disorder. Hate it. Can't wait for retirement.
  • Healey, losing power would be bad. We'd all be huddled around the gas fireplace for warmth (it's old school and has a pilot light unlike "modern" gas appliances that need electricity to function  ). As for supplies, we are in good shape, but the wife did give me a shopping list today for after work. Also on the list is more paint from A.C. Moore (50% coupon).

All of you in the path of this, please be safe.

Well, the best laid plans of mice and men...

Don't account for a sick wife, teenage drivers in bad weather, and a hyper-active 2 year old grandson.

Let's just put it this way, it was a lost weekend. Alcohol would have helped...a lot.

Sorry to hear that George. You have company, after Saturday and Sunday snow removal I could barely move. Sore all over. We got about 26" of snow.
