Murph,

It was a pleasure to view your images and craftwork on your layout and the others you have detailed.

One of the joys of the forum is seeing what others are doing here in the Jungle, and, even, "the other side", as Tramp calls it. In here, we have a little more diversity; hot rods, tractors, and bicycles are OK and on topic as well as trains.

dagrump,

Are you still dealing with ashes outside? Almost a year later, after power washing the roof and house, and most everything in the yard, I still run into a pile of them from time to time. I don't like it, but feel blessed that we were pretty much spared any real trouble.

san, It has been as dry as a popcorn fart for so long we're probably still getting some ash stirred up as well as a s**tload of dust stirred up.
Had the pleasure of chatting with a family from Encinitas the other week at the museum about different options for track, accessories etc. You could have knocked me over with a feather when she added that they had just finished building their ocean view home with a basement.
Murph, Great layout, enjoyed the photo album.

Thank you, sir. I appreciate your looking at them, and I am grateful for your kind approval.

When you wrote, "...on topic as well as trains," I believe you are correct because it seems that here the topic is us - gentlefolk having a nice time sharing news of such maters as tractors admired, locomotives purchased, and happy moments at layout crafting. I honestly feel this group would be just as relaxed in each other's actual physical company as it is conversing within the anonymity of such a forum. The comradeship is palpable, if you ask me, particularly when I read entries by such voices as highrailjon, Mitch, ogauge47, dirt, AG, GP, jaabat, and several others. There seems an implicit trust and candor that I have come to value and with which I am becoming proud to be associated (although I could probably do w/out photos of guys at urinals. ).

I thought I had seen/recognized some of those scenes before but impressive scope and scale as always, Murph!

I'm crying in my beer. My dreams of a 4-6-4 ATSF Hudson are slowly circling the porcelain bowl. Anyone need a beer to cry in also?

Murph,

It's a convivial group in here and you seem to be a fellow 'bo with stories to tell at the campfire and one who appreciates company after miles on the rails and running down his dogs crossing the land.

What you say are kind words, indeed, and I agree that we would all be at ease together. One of the nicer things about physical presence, it doesn't always take words. Hanging out in the tractor shed with The Dirt, rolling through the South with Jon, or just spending time with Tramp and Daisy would be a pleasure. If you ever make it to the land where surf meets the turf, I would be honored to meet you and enjoy your company.

I have only had the pleasure of personally meeting one of the camp, Wayne and his engaging, wonderful wife. Of course, it took a train trip :-) a meet up in Los Angeles Union Station, and something off the wall; lunch at Philipe's and a stroll through Olvera Street. And they had to come from Arizona.

Over the years there have been phone calls and other correspondence. sometimes in the most dire straights. My wife stuck in the mid east for a long time (a most kind call from Petey [The Dirt]), a call to Jon's charming wife while he was on Guard duty during Katrina, a mailing tube with some amazing, personally rendered art from Downeast, manuscripts of stories and portions of novels that came from the heart and hard experience. And there are offline conversations with some who have departed and remain at a distance, but still maintain one on one communication. The tractor dialogue between Mitch and The Dirt during the tear down and overhaul has got to be a classic that should be preserved; if you are going to do something, go at it with a passion and that is exactly what happened. I hope I have not slighted any of those not mentioned by name; they're all part of the texture of the Jungle.

Tramp thinks I quote this too much, but it has much characterized the richness of experience here...

I'll jump on the next boxcar with any of you guys.

San, I'd eat a wallop from a railroad bull any day and suffer it gladly, if it meant you'd get away.

I've said it before, you're welcome here anytime. Bloomsburg and Sullivan off'n the Delaware, Lackawanna and Western.

I could even have Airborne pop you a groundhog.

But you'd have to clean and grill and eat it yerself.

Downwind.

Murph, these two pictures are da Bomb!

I believe I slept overnight here once, curled up back in that dark far corner.

And this one! The devil's in the details, and a great photo is all angle and lighting. And this is a superb photo.

How big is your pike? We gotta be talking some serious square footage here. ANd how long has this been a work in progress?
