Probably both. When I worked at Ryder trucking years ago,

we had drivers that spent hundreds of thousands on their rigs.

Course, diesel fuel was a lot cheaper back then too.

Too much stuff on those bikes. I dumped a Fisher Z3 Joshua for a Bianchi SOK Single Speed 29er

And I live in serious hill country. It's not a fixie, though. I am not that nutz.

On the road, the Klein went to Craig's list and North of the Border did a splendid job of splicing in horizontal dropouts for the ultimate fixie.

I keep a Specialized Sequoia with a triple around for wimp days I need gears (a few more of those than I would care to admit).

That bike is very minimal, but it must be hard to ride, what with no seat, no handlebars, no pedals, and no wheels. Plus, it does not appear to have horizontal dropouts.

Wayne,

As it comes from Specialized, it don't have no stinkin' horizontal dropouts. The seat and chain stays are space age epoxy bonded to the vertical dropouts. North of the Border unbonded the epoxy and spliced in the horizontals. From there, I canabalized the Langster. Could step up in equipment but most fixies are done on the cheap. Got the Tarmac off Craigslist from a wreck. What I have is working and I'll swap out as problems occur. When I can get DW interested in a photo op, I'll post it. The bike deal is like trains. I get bike. She gets her stuff in equal or better measure.
