"Hoser Pete"

or

"Hose-her Pete"

Straw hats tend to be white. I think that's my old busted up one. I got a new PBR this summer. Same as Neal gets in Manual.

My USAF roommate drove an F-4 through a hanger. The door on one side was closed. He managed to survive the Board of Inquiry, retain his commission, and continue flying. Today he is a politician.

Dennis, as far as I am concerned, you are welcome any time. There isn't a 'bo among us who hasn't been cornered by the bulls in a yard somewhere. Sometimes, the agros spills over and gets between the 'bo's. I hope I didn't provoke anything, but express regrets if I did.

Sandy sounds like a good woman.

Now. About running locos off the tracks and planes through hangers...

Carry on.

As far as I know, Mr. Bush was not allowed to drive the F-4. They are dangerous near and in hangers.

In the same category, I have a cousin of my age named Dale. At age 11, while most of us were pining away for train stuff or gas airplanes, Dale had a vast collection of Barbie dolls. Not Ken or Skipper. Barbie. There was a constant stream of little girls coming to visit him. The rest of us just couldn't figure it out. Today, Dale has been married four times. The wives keep getting younger and he appears frozen in time like a vampire. He, too, is a politician.

On top of everything else he probably sold his Barbie collection for a record sum. It's very weird when men get a new identical-appearing wife every ten years as they (the men) age. They (the wives) usually even have similar names too.

Dennis, you better check with Sandy and make sure your dosage is correct. Stay with those pills. They do help in the long run.

Dennis, you'll be safe here. No one will recognize you. Just don't stray too far from the fire and don't wave those emails from George Kohs around.

Sandy, take care of that boy. Us hobos are a brotherly lot.

And Dennis, nothing is a failure that you learn from. If it was an old bad habit, it was a temporary setback, you hobo, and nothing more. Nothing.
Glad you've found your feet again.

Internet melees are the un-win-able fight. They get frenzied, 'full of sound and fury, signifying nothing'. Civility is strictly voluntary. No rules, no scruples necessary, when you won't have to ever face the person with whom you're arguing. People can and do act as regressed as they could ever become, when there are none of the human circumstances that would cause shame, embarrassment, or inhibition.
Dennis, you said your piece, it was an intelligent and measured response in the middle of the nonsense, and stood for itself, (despite the reactions).

I had to learn a similar lesson on that other forum, often ungracefully. And often, afterwards, I felt disgusted, like I needed to take a shower, like I had let my own standards down. Ultimately, I had to decide to 'know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em'. I've been better off ever since.

San, LOL, more politician stories! They're a panic.

Hi Petah. I received a wonderful piece of memorabilia from you a couple of days ago, and I love it! Thanks so much! It made me cry that you would think of me that way, and to also be considered an official "hobo." You're the best!

I lift my Lehigh Valley Railroad "hobo" mug to you and Kim. Cheers and Happy New Year my friend!

Ms. Jackie Blue, you're most welcome. (And fercryin'outloud, you've been a hobo longer than I have. H'ain't for ME to be doin' any considering!)

I'm glad you didn't think it was goofy. I love these relics that I collect, but of all the types, it was the caboose cups that were used when folks gathered together in comraderie, when the stew was being shared, when the coffee (or stronger) was passed around, when the stories and BS was flying,... (unlike the more solitary pursuits involved with things like oiling cans, signal and inspection lanterns, switch locks, semaphore and switch lamps, and such),... times like, well, almost exactly like how we spend our time here, in Tramp's Jungle and around San's 'dreaming the fire'.

Will and I toast the hobos with our tin cups when we get together, and he's the only one so far, only because we live close together. I'll be bringing mine along next time I get a chance to see Tramp, and who knows, maybe some time I'll get to knock mine together with yours.

The guy I bought it from was a Lehigh Valley collector, and after it was exchanged, he told me he had been collecting a long time, and it was the only LV cup he had ever seen.
You being a unique one yourself, you hobo, made this choice easy.

Tip the cup in Willy's direction for me, Petey. Tell 'em I'm still using the drill press with Forstner bits and the chop saw just like he taught me.

And just to celebrate his stage success, I'm making up a batch of wicked

Haggis

1 sheep stomach
1 sheep liver
1 sheep heart
1 sheep tongue
1/2 pound suet, minced
3 medium onions, minced
1/2 pound dry oats, toasted
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
1 teaspoon dried ground herbs

Rinse the stomach thoroughly and soak overnight in cold salted water.

Rinse the liver, heart, and tongue. In a large pot of boiling, salted water, cook these parts over medium heat for 2 hours. Remove and mince. Remove any gristle or skin and discard.

In a large bowl, combine the minced liver, heart, tongue, suet, onions, and toasted oats. Season with salt, pepper, and dried herbs. Moisten with some of the cooking water so the mixture binds. Remove the stomach from the cold salted water and fill 2/3 with the mixture. Sew or tie the stomach closed. Use a turning fork to pierce the stomach several times. This will prevent the haggis from bursting.

In a large pot of boiling water, gently place the filled stomach, being careful not to splash. Cook over high heat for 3 hours.

Serve with mashed potatoes, if you serve it at all.

I sure as hell hate bursting haggis. Feel about the same toward politicians. After a cauldron of haggis you can beat the snot out of scrapple eaters.

I had a good hunch you were pulling our leg, Dennis. Sounded too whacko to me to be true.
