I'll buy the next round. We got to compete with Denver.
Jon, your entire state did not make the list. I'll buy all yours tonight.

Daisy wrote:I wonder how they calculate that anyway. Seems the amount of guys in trucks the size of China leaving the VFW on Saturday nights up here should've been enough to lodge us in the top 10.
D,
The list was made by Men's Health. They explain, "We looked at annual death rates due to alcoholic liver disease, as well as who's headed there by regularly downing five or more drinks in a sitting (CDC). Next, we factored in drunk-driving arrests (FBI) and the percentage of fatal accidents involving intoxicated motorists (U.S. Department of Transportation). Then, after tallying the MADD report card of state efforts to cut down on excessive drinking, we had our ranking and, for the state of Colorado, an invitation to AA."

Jon, thought you might be interested to see how things you write on the Jungle sneak into my fiction. This is from the story I posted the beginning to that no one seemed to like.
He patted the oversized wooly head, rubbed the pointed ears. “You too, huh? What’re we gonna do, buddy? Once she gets a cats-allowed apartment, she’ll take you with her. Then what? She’ll have no reason to ever talk to me again.” He sneezed. Maybe he had a cold along with the flu? He figured it was almost drowning in that damn swimming pool that had done it. Christ, why had he thought it would be funny to fire up and drive the boss’s lawn tractor? He’d wanted to surprise all the guests: his new coworkers of the past couple months, and make his girlfriend laugh. Wasn’t it his good spirits and sense of humor that had always made people accept him? But what did he know about how to act at fancy office parties like that? Those damn sweet drinks. Mai Tais, Slippery Monkeys, Lava Flows, and a Blue Smurf. He’d had to try them all, but what did he know about crap like that? He was a beer and occasional whiskey guy. Besides, he’d only intended to drive up near the edge to scare everyone. “Boo, I even offered to pay to have the damn tractor hauled out of the pool.” He stroked his palm along the thick fur. “Fucker should’ve had the pool drained by then away. Of course then I probably woulda cracked my skull. Mighta been better for everyone, I guess.”
My father died 26 years ago today. He certainly drank his share. Here's to him.
