Hev, I don't know where exactly the Hainesville Woods, (made popular in the song) are, but I can tell you that Route 9 out of Bangor over to Calais is full of short steep hills, pine trees and boulders.

There's a stretch of road, up north, in Maine

I have been re-reading a sci-fi book that I first read forty years ago.I mention this here because there are several chapters,called measures,where large steam tractors are used on road trains.The description of "driving"one in the first measure seems to be accurate to me,but I know nothing about steam tractors.

Well the wife finally got her car back from the repair shop yesterday just in time to follow my truck to drop it off a the radiator shop. When it rain it pours, so the saying goes!!!

Know what yer talkin' about Mitch. I was on that route a few times. You're right about the short steep hills, pine trees and boulders. Wintertime is a bitch too ......................


I hauled potatoes south out of Houlton Maine down Route 2A to INT 95 at Enfield to pickup 95 south.. This route ran thru the woods. The town of Hainesville is about halfway down this route before ya git to Enfield. ( don't blink or you'll miss it) ..................

Had to run this route to git around the Dept of Agr. when the farmers didn't tag there potatoes. One hell of a fine if they caught ya.


I also loaded pototoes up at Eagle Lake and ran Route 11 south to Sherman Mills to pickup INT 95 south. There is no roads west of this route . Just wilderness. Real eary drivin' down this route at nightime. Never knew what you were goin' to run into.......................

Snow coverd road everytime I ran down thru there......................
If ya ever wrecked they would never find ya cause ya would have froze to death and the bears probably would have ate ya..............................
