Hey, are you guys gonna play badminton with your chicken-bone-throwing-netherworld-neighbor later?
Any grilling plans? We have the usual burgers (turkey), corn on the cob, watermelon, ice cream, etc. The standard 4th fare.
Well, things have been a little tight here, so we're just havin' baked potato skins and boiled chicken necks, but we have plenty of cold water to go around! And for dessert, we have Koolade slushies. Yum!

I wouldn't watch a Live Earth Concert when times are good, let alone now!
I'm so disgusted with myself right now over those damn cabinet doors, that I gave up for today, and I've been watching the Gettysburg Battlefield Tours on the Pennsylvania Cable Network. These are 2 hour specials where a different Park Ranger takes a large group of folks out to specific sites and gives a full account of what happened in that particular area in that days' battle. Very in-depth and very accurate. There's a bunch of them they usually do for the whole week of the 4th, as the battle was fought on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of July, 1863. 25 square miles of battlefield makes for a lot of discussion.
I can't believe that after measuring 3 times, spending 2 hours re-squaring my table saw, making a jig to edge the laminate without chipping, that I cut 3 doors 3/4" too small in all directions. F&*K!!! I swear sometimes I'm dumber than a goddamned post.
I tell 'ya, it's enough to make a man want to drink.
Oh, wait a minute, I do that anyway!

Desert Poem:
The desert is our home.
There where saguaro are so many.
Where greasewood is green.
Smelling nice.
The desert is cactus fruit.
Prickly pear, cholla, mesquite beans.
The desert is work, but for our good
The desert is for our good.

Had an afternoon airshow right from the back yard. Two T-6 Texans and a P-51 (unmistakable sound of Merlin instead of the original Allison) mixed it up on several sorties for the Del Mar Fair. Finale was a flight of F-18s directly over the house at about 2500 feet. Hope it is something similar to the last thing the mullahs see before entering hell.
Evening finished with a fireworks display from Rancho Santa Fe and the Del Mar Fair, visible from the yard. No need to travel, just sit with Jahan in patio chairs and enjoy. Someone down the road was broadcasting patriotic music. Corny, but I liked it.
San
ObFood: Cedar planked salmon with the sweetest white corn on the cob. Soaked the corn in salt water for about 1 hour before grilling for 30 minutes.
ObFun: Fourth of July personal best... First >20 mile ride on the fixie over hill and dale. Recovery drink: low fat chocolate milk.

BEIJING - Villagers in central China spent decades digging up bones they believed belonged to flying dragons and using them in traditional medicines. Turns out the bones belonged to dinosaurs, and now scientists are doing the digging.
I feel better about our trains being made over there now.
Running that red block Charlie.
Maybe it'll turn out that the trains are being made by flying dragons and scientists will start making them instead.
Whew. What a holiday. The best ever. Ended with Tramp running around the yard in the dark with sparklers amidst a bunch of fireflies and the cat who was racing around like mad as well thinking Tramp was out hunting or something.
Wayne, you must be boiling up out there in the desert at 107. I'd send you a picture of Jon's obelisk to help cool you off but it might freak everyone out. Might be getting desperate phone calls from Pete again. Better have a slushie instead.
