How far is from Int 95 to Strasburg?

Andre.

Andre........................Strasburg is about 25 miles north of INT 95. When you git to Newark DE. take 896 north thru De and into PA. This will run you right into Strasburg Railroads back door.

Jon, Have fun :o :o

Andre, The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania is right across the road , the TCA toy train museum is nearby as is the Choo-Choo Barn . They are all worth seeing several times . I've only been there twice so maybe Hev or someone else from the area can tell you more . If you are going through the Baltimore area the B&O RR museum is also worthwhile .

Jon, I can't get in. The bouncer said, "Tramp, you're no longer needed here." What's up with that? But if that's how it is, what can I do? So I drink at home.

Tramp, This isn't one of those downtown "run of the mill" bars I'm at. It's in a grove of pines up an old dirt road. If there was a bouncer, he's long "passed out" nestled with some sweet little brown-eyed babe missing the horns of a KCS freight train passing through. There's still plenty of Heiny left in the keg, so stop making excuses and get your butts up here!

Jon,

Hangin out here in central Maryland, I am on my second cigar, and have lost count of the beers.

That new Big Boy is the bomb. If you get tired of running it, keep it under the front seat of your car, as a weapon!

Rock on!

Craig,

Cuban? Used to get them from my barber, who would slip down to Mexico and then take a flight over to Cuba. I stopped years ago since it was affecting my surfing and biking. That being said, there was a certain ambiance, luxury, comfort, and satisfaction in a good 'gar. Live well, my friend.

Well, boys, I've come up with my latest sure-fire, can't-fail, get-rich scheme. No doubt, all of you guys with means will want to get in this with me.

But first, lemme give you a quick tour on the Bloomsburg and Sullivan Railroad.

This here's one of our fine pieces of rolling stock, a sweet 4-4-0 steamer.

Image

Here's one of the promotional posters, sure to stir up plenty of business!
Four trains each way daily! (Exceptin' Sunday)

Image

Here's the southern terminus in Bloomsburg, where the B&S shares the station next to the mill with the P&R Railroad. Another hundred yards south, it interchanges with the Lackawanna and Bloomsburg Railroad, soon to be bought by the mighty DL&W. Lotsa rich connections!

Image

Half a mile north, the B&S swings around to the east to join Fishing Creek, where it will follow the creek valley some 27 miles to it's northern terminus.

Image

Another quarter-mile, it curls north again, and mid-pic on the right, slides past the Water Company, with the power house to juice the pumps to take the water up a hill to a reservoir to gravity-feed Bloomsburg.

Image

Next, the B&S is seen outside of Orangeville.

Image

Me living in Orangeville, here's a shot of the main drag. Listen carefully, you can hear the locomotive hissing and thumping down at the station 2 streets to the left.

Image

Here's a shot of the Orangeville station. I couldn't seem to get that dang drunk hobo to stay out of the picture.

Image

Here's the next station north, town of Forks. Williams General Store behind.

Image

And another picture of Forks a year later, with a freight room and a wider roof added. Obvious sign of Prosperity!

Image

Here's folks waiting for the train up in Benton. Dig the old street lamp. Little freight building in the background, which is a popular spot for the hobos, as you'll see in another couple of pictures!

Image

I ran to the other side of the Benton station to catch the train pulling up.

Image

The freight building again, with a horse and wagon, unloading barrels of McHenry and Sons whiskey!! 8) :D Highrailjon's lurkin' in the bushes with a straw, awaitin' an opportunity in case a barrel drops and breaks!

Image

Several miles north, a shot of the tracks leading into Jamison City.

Image

Local dudes cutting ice blocks from a pond next to the tracks.

Image

And our train pulled up at the Jamison station. From here, it's all mountains, feeding the B&S with it's lumber and hide-tanning businesses. The lumberjacks stay in camps in the hills during the week, and come down to Jamison City on Fridays to get drunk, fight, and carouse. Friday is also the day the B&S brings a passenger train with working-ladies from Philladelphia to help the boys spend their money. Those Friday trains were the B&S's finest hours!

Image

Plan is to take the line up through the mountains to some new coal fields up in Bernice (rhymes with 'furnace'). More revenue!

Well, here's my money-making scheme. With it's connections to the south, and the inexhaustible supply of lumber and hides, whiskey and rich farmlands, seems like the perfect opportunity for investment!

Image

So I went and bought myself 6,072 shares of stock in the B&S! Or was it 6,042? Too much dang whiskey again!8)

Image

Image

Now don't you all rush and telegraph me at once. Don't want to fry the wires.

But in the meantime, if any of you bums want to work your way up here, youse can join me at the camp meeting!

Image

On the B & S Railroad!
