Nicknames say alot about a person. Even if I were in the market for another B&M Berk, I think I would hold off for another seller!!

That looks better than the Lionel one. I like the paint job. I bet it's got the big Pittman motor in it too.

Boy, there's a sucker bet if I ever heard one....
Typical Weaver. Great stuff, that is underestimated!
I had a friend of mine ask me "why brass?" yesterday at the club. My answer was simple enough.
Accuracy in a limited run.
Then, I got long winded to explain the explnation!
With die-cast, you MUST make enough copies to pay for the cost of tooling. With brass, surface details can be chemically etched on the surface, there's no molds and patterns to make, just soldering jigs, and bendong/forming jigs. Detail parts (whistles, bells, headlights, cylinders, etc...) can (and often are, look at a Presision Scale catalog) be used on more than one model.
Another advantage of brass is thin walls on openings such as windows and doors.
Die cast has a certain thickness that is needed for structrual soundness. Brass can (and is) much thinner for the strength.
(please note, I explained this before the obligatory "end of Fire and Ice festival Drunk". Had I done this afterward, it would have come out as
"lets see boobs!" for some reason, with some stiff drink in me, this is all I think about
