Actually, I do both, the 2 rail is my rivet counting, "that's not prototype" persnickety side.
I also do 3 rail, and Flyer, just to see 'em run in circles and making noise.

Jim, that IS a DC engine, Lionel made 'em back in the early 80s, for the low end of the line. My daughter has one, we put in a full wave bridge rectifier from Radio Shack, only runs forward, but she, at 16 still loves it!

DaisIIIIy Hmmmm. thats a tough call. You can wail the hell out of a guitar, maybe you could go as Axl Rose? Then you would'nt have to drag a big wang all over town, unless you really want to. I know I would'nt. But thats just me.

Axyl Rose is pretty freaking scary, I should know, I went to Disney World with him. Actually that's a lie. I lie all the freaking time. But actually that wasn't a lie, I did. Very scary perrrrrrrrson.

But I'm not going as Mssr. Rose, I'm already dressed up as something. Just not sure what it came out as. A pyschedelic pornstar firefly? Something of that sort. You? Same as me?

I believe you. I could definitely see you and Axl hitting it off at practically any theme park in the continental U.S. As for me, My costume still has one minor flaw. I still have'nt figured out how to properly attach these springs to my jackboots. If I can solve it, I'm going as a whorling pastry. Com'n, you remember? "Lofting croissants through the air"? It was genius on your part!!! To this day, I've always had a burning (baking) desire to live it out.

Thanks. The engine doesn't run but the granddaughter dribbles! The engine has a small motor in it, and probably needs to be replaced. I have never seen a small engine like it has. I will have to send Jon a picture of the caboose and tank car.

No idea, he didn't have any instructions with it, only thing he said was it hums when I put a American Flyer transformer on it. I tryed a lionel transformer and again it hust buzzed.

Jim, that is definatly a DC drive unit. Put a DC power source to her, and she should run.
Get a Full Wave Bridge Rectifier from Radio Shack, as high an amperage rating as they carry (most R/S stores are now mostly glorified cell phone pushers, but some still carry REAL electronic parts) and go by the input/output diagram on the package. The inputs should go to the center roller (or slider) and the wheels, the output side should go to the motor leads. Determine which way you want it to run, and go from therewothj which wire will go to what lead.

Yeah, an HO power pack will work for testing. Use the DC to track side tho.
A full wave bridge rectifier converts AC to DC. Looks like a computer chip, with 4 leads at the corners.
I'll dig out the last one that I got, and post a pic tomorrow, or get the part number from R/S.

I tryed the HO Power Pack and you were indeed correct. It is DC. Yes it ran but I had to put the power pack on fulll blast for it to work. Will the Rectifier make it run faster and do you have any idea how much one would cost if they still sell it at Radio Shack? P.S. I turned the couplers over on it and now they would be able to shake hands. Now to do the caboose. Will try to take a good picture of the tank car and Caboose tonight.
