Hi Stiffie! Long time no see! How about a cold beer, baby?
This is the place to be tonight. Some folks over there are getting rowdy about Lionel and talking about giving it money. Can you believe it?! What a silly thought! I'm sure the company will be just fine and then there's always insurance.
So, please dear, let's not talk about such things. It's Saturday, the night is beautiful and breezy, and I'm sure we can think of better things to talk about. Maybe we can rowse some others to join us too.
Cheers!

I sat with my 20 month old son this evening on the freshly mowed front lawn and watched as the last rays of the sunset lit up his golden hair. God, He has his mothers eyes! Putting him to bed, I climbed on the '76 for a short evening putt. Two twists of the wick and one kick, the scoot roared to life and off I went down Hwy.468. I always enjoy opening up the throttle as I pass the correctional facility. Coming up to the intersection the RR lights start to flash and the arms come down. This was special, as its usually the Kansas City Southern, but tonight a couple of nicely painted BNSF's pulling a load of cement hoppers ran by. The black engineer waived as I hung out and after the train passed I cranked her out, rolling past the hoppers till I caught back up with the engineer. I waived as I sped by and a couple of toots let me know I was aknowledged. Two people in two seperate worlds but both respecting the others.
Running that red block Charlie.

Food. I've been up to my ears in food. The start of the Del Mar Fair always marks our little neighborhood's progressive dinner. We live on the edge of a nature preserve, pretty much by ourselves, so the nine households on the block are close. All afternoon folks nosh their way from house to house, eating, dipping feet in pools, talking, and then starting it all over at the next house. This year, at our house, it was chile colorado, pulled pork sandwiches, roast corn dipped in sea water, and Salad Olivia (a type of Persian potato salad with chicken and boiled egg). Green salads were two doors to the west. Homemade gelato was one door east. There were Indian and Japanese feasts within the cul de sac. One guy sets up a Tappan grill and does a Benny Hanna kind of thing. I was up half the night cooking. Burp. I need a Tagamit.
Somehow, nobody ever makes it down to the fair.
Train running is part of the deal with the O-gauge in one of the garage bays and the standard gauge upstairs. The new big boy made it through the evening without wrecks or toasting it's L2IR card. I have to cook ahead since once it starts the trains don't stop until it's time for bed for the last kid in the neighborhood.
It's quiet now, and as I came in from the yard, there was still a glimmer of light in the western sky and a few planets and stars poking pinpoints of light though the night canopy.
Now what we need is a progressive Hobo dinner. I am sure Jackie knows a thing or two to fix, Willy grills a mean steak, Stiff can make a stolen chicken taste fine with herbs pulled off nearby brush, and Dufus has some talent for libation. I am not sure if immortals actually eat, so Tramp is a wait and see.

I really miss actual trains. Down east we only have one tourist train, and it hasn't started running yet. Jon and San, seems like you fellows had perfect Saturdays. I drove around in my wife's '65 wagon, drinking beer, the air as clear as it ever gets, the ocean calm and very blue.

I am having a great summer. I am stll married and liking it very much!
I have a new recipe for another cool drink: Idaho Silver - It is made from a 50 - 50 mix of Ever-Clear and Idaho Gold with a drop of tap water for balance. It is smoooooth and it will knock your **** in the dirt! I am shipping a modest amount to Petey on the BNSF from Ogden, Utah!
