Lads, the Berk is coming home. Gary assures me that they've talked with it every day, and the Berk insists it has no interest in ever being a smoking volcano again.

Just got our power back after 24 hours, 20 minutes. We had had a week of steady drizzly rain that had the ground saturated, then got three days of downpours. I had an empty bucket on our front stoop before the big rains, and it overflowed after filling it's 14 inches. We had our lane wash out badly, but that was it for us, an inconvenience only. A lot of other people around here got it pretty bad.
Here's a couple of pics, but all in all, we have nothing to complain about in relation to Katrina, so I'll not do any whining.

And then there's always the fools who ignore the calls to evacuate. "Rescue", courtesy of the US Army. Jon could tell us about the bird- it was hoisting folks up via a cable through it's belly.

Any other Pennsy hobos take it in the ear?

Petey,

That's some serious rain and flooding. Hope you are on high ground (I think you are from previous snaps of the 'stead). My empathy to those who are not so fortunate.

Think we have a few 'bo's in the flood zone. Hope they are doin all right. We are hearing of evacuations on the news.

It's amazing the damage water can do. Pete, for a second I worried that was your tractor. I hear Wilkes-Barre is about under water.

Can't believe the Supremes essentially gave POW status to those bunch of butchers at GITMO. We can just turn them loose, give them an inner tube a compass and a heading. Oh yeah, one other item I almost forgot. I believe it's a shark repellent called chum.

Thanks for the thoughts, guys.

We're up on a hill. Our only inconvenience was the electricity and driveway. Got a 6 foot piece of I-bar to drag behind the tractor to level out all the gullies, and it works real good.
We didn't even get wet in the basement.

But never doubt the erosive power of running water. It is all hills around here, and wherever the water had a head of steam, real estate has gone someplace else. And buildings. Fences. Walls. Farm equipment. You name it.
A local covered bridge, built in 1884, was completely swept away.
No local deaths, so like I said, compared to Katrina....

But if the water ever starts to lap around OUR house, hobos better hope they're all on good terms with their respective Makers!

Jon, LOL!
That is exACTly what I need!
Next time up, could you throw that in the back of your pickup and drop 'er off?

Hey, tell you what, bud!
I got some local real estate for sale, maybe I could interest you in moving on up!
Nice homes, privacy, quiet neighborhood, lovely view, adjoining creek with great fishing, located in the Pleasant Pines development in Orangeville Pa.
No money down!

Better make a commitment quick, this offer won't be around for long!
