San, how 'bout it. I raised two from my first marriage, so I came into this set of three acutely aware how how fast they disappear.
I've had lots of parents look at me like I've gone mental, raising a 10, 8, and 7 year-old at the age of 57, and they chuckle about how glad they now have their 'freedom', and how "No way!" they'd do it again, and I laugh and let them enjoy their smugness, but I can't think of a blessed thing on this great blue Earth I'd rather be doing than being exactly where I am right now.
Late last evening, Kim being at work, I was sitting at my computer, and Leah came up from the family room where she had been with her brothers watching TV, stuffed animal in arm, and whispered "Can we go watch 'Lemony Snicket' upstairs, just you and me?" Hobos, right there I heard the proverbial offer you can NOT refuse! Two minutes later, she's snuggled up beside me on a mound of pillows. Man, I couldn't have felt one penny richer.
Jon 'gets' this. I could hear it in his voice and the stuff he was saying at the Mountain Springs. You can see it in his photographs here on the Jungle.
Willy, too- tell me that's not an adoring eye in the viewfinder with that beautiful young lady moving so gracefully, and atop a wet rail!
Hev, too, with his granddaughter in his lap on a John Deere.
What the hey, maybe it's just something about being a hobo and homeless, and out on the road, makes us appreciative for family.
San, loved this:
Exactly right, and the greatest is the last.
Damn, I wish you all were our neighbors.
And Jon, the best picture I ever saw here was the one with your son and your wife face to face, blowing bubbles.

But it is a time for us to renegoitiate the marriage for lust, the marriage for children, the marriage for companionship. If you are fortunate, you get all three in different proportions as life moves on with one person.
Exactly right, and the greatest is the last.

Gotta head up the hill. My father-in-law has hay coming today on a flatbed truck. I share the loft duty, stacking them after they come up the elevator.
LOL, go figure. His own field getting baled, of which I had a picture a page or two ago, was given away to the farmer who baled it. Half a week later, he's buying 250 bales from another farmer!?
Must be something to do with loyalties and friendships, I guess. He's bought hay from this farmer for years, and the relationship is there.
I made a bad decision in this regard. My wife, before I arrived here, had been letting a farmer use her 20 acres here for free, and he didn't want to pay. We then decided we could use the money, and got in a gov-mint crop-reserve program, whose purpose was to stop pesticide/fertilizer/erosion runoff into the Susquehanna/Cheasapeake, and to provide cover for indigenous birds like turkey/quail, which would pay $75/acre to let our ground go fallow. Two farmers offered us $35/acre to use the ground, including the Christmas tree farmer who is our neighbor. We went with the bigger money, and it's a 10 year contract, but I deeply regret not taking my neighbor's offer. Some things aren't worth the bucks.
Have to get up the hill. One more picture, and I promise I'll quit gumming up the Jungle with these things.
Once again, Airborne is above the horizon:

Truer words could never be spoken, Brother!!!! At 48 years of life, just when I thought I've seen and done it all, along comes my son!!!!! WOW!!!!! I actually started out trying to teach all the things I knew to him, but as time rolls on, he's actually the one teaching me!
You got to stay with it, Jon, and enjoy everything with them as they're growing. As an over-the-road trucker, I missed my kids growing in their most formative years, being gone 6 days a week, and sometimes 2 weeks at a time. It is one of the things I regret most in my life; my youngest was born while I was enroute from Vandalia, Mo. to Canada. By the time I got out of it, my youngest was 10 years old.
If you agree with the Progressives, it's freedom of speech. If you disagree, it's hate speech. There are no alternatives.
