Recent work and finished older projects

Postby Pacific Limited » Sat Oct 10, 2026 11:01 am

Finally getting some worked on, shelved then restarted again and some new things done. Still need caboose trucks. The OMI 01400 DRGW crummie was my friend John Johnson’s. He converted the trucks to P48, narrowed with Grabowski wheels, but he lost the leaf springs. … I refuse to pay $125 for a pair of decent trucks. Insane especially since they were $40, I refuse to participate in the speculator’s hoarding games to drive up prices. I will figure something out.

Precision Scale still sells leaf springs you can insert into sideframes to convert trucks from coil springs.

These early TOFC cars are magnificent. You've built a significant collection over the decades and all are show quality. Thanks for posting again Erik.

I kept buying them, I stopped… and the other day saw this and just about fell outta my chair:

https://ebay.io/m/GO2bmP

It’s nice but day-yum… 700 bucks! Well my continuation of building up this consist ended. I was paying 300 or so and I thought that was a little high.
That last Seacrest auction I picked up 3 or 4 all for less than 200 a car. Granted this 700.00 car at Trainz is very nicely painted, looks like a factory paint for OMI, one of the few, 30 were built in 1989. Probably Bob Anson painted this one. I can manage just fine. Deal is until my guy at Mt Vernon ran me 5 decal sets in 2018 all we had were these super thick 1970s Champ sets. Microscale was supposed to do them but I have never seen any, ever, I’ve obsessed looking these fabled F39 decals in 1/48 for the 1989 OMI’s models. Haha

I’d rather have my cars with the my decals.

It's not going to sell for that amount.

They price their brass pieces very high, but then their algorithms gradually drop the prices over time.

I have always liked that DRGW caboose - the Cupola windows sort of capture me. Did not know they came with standard caboose steps, which I prefer over the stirrups on cabooses.

True. Patience and time can lead to a rewarding result.

Beautiful work, Erik. You’re a great modeler and photographer.
