Weekend Photos - October 2026

Postby healey36 » Fri Oct 02, 2026 3:07 pm

Been on an N5c kick of late...found this pink version to bring up the back end of the faux Girl's Train:

I think the original Girl's Train's N5c was a pastel blue. No matter, we like a uniform color for the equipment roster (6-27793).

Interesting Healey and Hondo.
I searched eBay for "Lionel N5C Pink" and was surprised by how many pink cars Lionel made.
I also found the high prices interesting.

The originals seem to go for serious money, but the repops from the 1990s are a bit more reasonable. I've gotten the 6464-series boxcars for less than twenty bucks each. Others are hit or miss...definitely requires a bit of patience if you don't want to spend a fortune.

One attraction for the repops, at least for me, is the free-rolling wheel sets as compared to the postwar trucks.

I need to work on my faux 2037-500 a bit...the cam for the smoke unit doesn't seem to work very well. I might have balled that up when I put it back together.

An interesting video about the girls train from a girls point of view and and an interesting layout.

LOL, how old is Peachy? 15? 35? Tough to tell.

I didn’t realize they’d renumbered the locomotive in the reissue. Still looks like a 2037-500, though.

Finished off the paper Marx station:

Changed up the roof for a textured spray-paint version. Turned out okay, for what it is.

As they used to say, "that and a dime will get you a cup of coffee" (now $6.85 at Starbucks, lol). I've no idea how I got to 4000 posts over there, other than I post a lot of pics. OGF has the advantage that they will host your photos...you don't need to have a 3rd-party hosting service to add them. I like sharing pictures, so that's a beni for me.

I wish we had 1/10 of their activity here (in terms of views/posts. A lot of it's "fluffy", but at least there's activity. Here, not so much. Recent efforts to rejuvenate this place seem to have flat-lined...

I was looking through old photos the other day and these two popped up in proximity. I was struck by the similarity of the schemes:

Ninety years earlier, an Ives boxcar:

York this week...who's going? Thursday's been lopped off the schedule...might be interesting to see what that and the crappy economy does to attendence.

Seems that folks have way too much money to spend on stuff that they really do not need,

Can't argue with that, especially in view of the crazy money the manufacturers are asking for stuff.

I've got a set of Flyer passenger cars I'm on the hunt for and the seemingly impossible-to-find LNER coach for Sarge. Other than that, just a good walk spoiled. Always come home with an armload though...more projects for the pile.

Only because there are folks that keep paying those prices....

I thought he was over and done with the Brit stuff, :? :? I've been trying very hard to not buy any more work and to sell off stuff - did pretty good at Strasburg this past cycle, and stuff still departs here pretty regularly thanks to eBay. Working on these Robico kit cars and I've got 2 that I am finding to be closer and closer to just being salvaged for the cast metal parts. But then I've go no idea what to do with the parts.....maybe eBay, :? :? :?

Sarge is looking for a Hornby coach to complete a childhood set. It's one of those faux teak ones. I've seen a few Marklin that look similar, but not Hornby.

I can't imagine who is buying this new stuff. The only thing that appeals to me is the Lionel "Russian" decapods, but they quickly lose their appeal at $1.3K. Couldn't spend that in good conscience. To be fair, everything is vastly more expensive now, but this hyper-discretionary stuff might see its demise soon.

Everything I thought I knew about economics seems to have not been working these last 2-3 years, but I suspect that's about to change. My former employer just bagged the biggest piece of their AI deployment program, and a buddy of mine that is a car salesman says he's only sold one pick-up in the last ninety days. Not to go all "club car" here, but it might be time to buckle up.
