Bob,
Thank you for sharing. Sounds like he was a great person. I wish that I had met him.

Well, bump!

Here is a Lobaugh Challenger offered by Trainz on eBay. This is not quite as egregious as offering a 1950 IMP Challenger for four grand, calling it a 1939 Treasure Island World Fair model, but at three grand it does set a new high water mark for Lobaugh.

Easy to find, although it only shows up as "other" in my Lobaugh search, so here's an excerpt:

This item has been graded per TCA standards (Restored/Repainted) R-5: Professional Grade based on visual appearance. The locomotive was unresponsive when tested on DC and would short the controller on DCC. The overall appearance of this item may be improved with a gentle and thorough cleaning. The wheels and rolling pickups show signs of average use.

This one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/336561197795?_ ... SwdYJp87dI

They have the usual host of grossly overpriced and misidentified stuff....

I hate to speak ill of a seller, but trainz disgusts me. Always too much money or WAAAAAY to much money, as in the case of this Challenger. And I've heard some sad stories of poorly packed purchases that were damaged. They don't care about what they sell....it might as well be lawn mower blades.

What bothers me just as much, is Brass Trains selling on EB and pricing inexpensive cars for reasonable prices ($19 to $29) and then charging $35 to 45 for shipping them. One built up kit car from the 50's and 60's for a total investment of $50-$60-$70...come on. It almost appears both of these sellers are looking for someone not paying attention. I thought that was a beginner shysters trick and that BT was above that. :(

If you look at the beginning of the Moraga rebuild/restore thread (viewtopic.php?f=4&t=20143) you will see the results of such a packing job. It was 1 of 3 cars in a box packed with that brown paper,

Shipping from Trainz can be variable. Sometimes it’s stellar and other times terrible. I have found some stunning bargains from them but as of late prices seem too high.

BT always does a good job packing, but their shipping cost seems expensive.i surmise they make some profit from shipping.

Similarly I have found that many eBay sellers like to profit from shipping.
