Rebuilding an older Walthers RPO and need underbody parts/castings.....so who sells such stuff now? Anyone? Thought maybe Scale City (Keil-line stuff), but nothing much on their web site. Just need the basics to avoid a naked underbody car.....

Wiseman has quite a few details on EB, so I expect they have them on their website as well.

Yes, and I do buy direct from him now and again. Lots of neat stuff to tempt....

But in this specific case what he's got are either narrow gauge car parts or the set he has for a streamline pass car. I think what I need is the old basic Walthers castings for a heavy weight pass car....probably on eBay but I've not found them as yet. I think I have a suitable brake cylinder unit in my traction parts bin. Air tanks and the other bits like the generator are parts I do not have in the shop. They were probably on a table at the last Strasburg show,

Air tanks and battery boxes were just blocks of wood.

Yes. Dowel and blocks..... I was hoping to do a rung or 1 up the ladder...... :? :? Maybe it's too big an ask these days :?:

Pete and I have boxes of old passenger car parts, some scavenged from old cars and other NOS assortments that wandered in from somewhere. Most of it is cast white metal. I will take photos. Stay tuned

Here is the bottom of a Walthers heavyweight postal-baggage car:

Bob is correct that the tanks and battery boxes are made of wood, but note that the outward face of the battery box has a cast front. Cast ends for the tanks are also available on one or two sizes. I have all these pieces. If you want something fancier, you might try Bill Basden:

I can make the tanks - just cylinders - from brass tubing and sheet. Was hoping to find tanks that have actual mounting feet, etc. as part of the end castings, not unlike the Q-Car stuff. If not, so it goes....

What you've got is "good enough" for this car! That generator and other castings are what are needed to fill out the underbody.

Let's figure this out now - you've got my email address, right?

This is probably for a far better car at some future time.

So, stripped down to metal and raw wood and reassembled with a new floor and new paint....with donated underbody parts!

Thanks, guys!

Probably could have been fitted together slightly better but it's reached "good enough" given what I started with and the amount of lacquer thinned to get it to clean metal.

Decals arrived but it's in the 50's so gloss and go is on hold for a while, :(
