Rare Lobaugh

I note that this, the ten-wheeler, cab forward, Rock Island Mountain, B&O Pacific, and Daylight are rare - I have never seen one of these. This one looks pristine. Not my cup of tea.

The Lobaugh cab forward and Daylight GS appear in the 1942 Lobaugh supplement, just in time for Pearl Harbor. They were not brought back after the war, so, yes, rare.

The Lobaugh FEF, B&O pacific, and D&H challenger appear in the 1941 catalog and likewise disappeared permanently with the war, so also rare.

The MP mountain and NP challenger were introduced in the 1940 catalog, so they wouldn't be so rare if they sold as well as the 0-6-0 or C&NW Berkshire, but I guess they did not, as they are not seen often. I have never seen the MP mountain.

I believe the suburban tank locomotive, like the one on eBay, is a post-war model, but I haven't scoured the catalogs to find it. I have only seen one, which my eagle-eyed brother spotted at the March Meet in 2016. Arthur Hayes was alerted and he scooped it up.

Other post-war models that are rare in my experience are the climax (seen one) and the mongrel mogul (can't recall seeing any):

I did not know that Lobaugh made a ten-wheeler or a Rock Island mountain.

Rock Island - my mistake! It was Mo Pac.
You have seen the Mongrel Mogul - it was surrounded by far too many other models.
Climax is rare, but not as rare as, say, the Suburban.

Berkshires are ubiquitous.

The Suburban, ten-wheeler, and Mongrel Mogul were Al Ellis projects, just designed to use up pieces of Pacifics and 0-6-0s. None had prototypes.

Suburban was a Pacific frame, 4-4-0 drivers, Cab Forward lead truck under the cab. 4-4-0 boiler. Nobody has ever seen the ten-wheeler, but you can bet it was related to the Suburban.

This e-Bay offering really appears to be high quality. Just not something I lust for.

Two bidders! It is somehow nice to know that there are at least two Lobaugh collectors who are more "avid" than I am. It is going to close above the $500 mark, and soon! If you don't look, the photos will disappear very soon.

Edit: almost $650. Astounding!

Am I reading the tape measure correctly, it looks to be gauged about 1 1/8" ? (Early P:48 ?)
