That's what I was thinking but for all I know they could have stashed "something" in that space.....

Out on the western end of PC, they somehow got something like a half-dozen of those standard steel ATSF cars, cut down the cupola to the structural "ring" around the hole in the main roof, added bay-windows and classed them as N5k.

Now that's interesting!  Found photos of them in Conrail blue.....

Wow, painting the grabs yellow made a big difference in visual interest.

Lastly, the N9 done: Briggs kit, Trucolor paint, K4 decals, some light weather befitting a reasonably recent paint-job by Conrail.

Great job! What a kit, that expanded metal deck is a thing of beauty!
Those K4 decals and the Conrail blue Tru-color are perfect too.
Like that a lot.

Thanks for the kind words.

That pretty much is me done with the current project, catching up with our caboose roster. Don't know what I'm going to tackle next but I do have a couple ops scenarios to write, something hardly photogenic...

These two Weaver 50 footers are solely paint & decal jobs using Trucolor paint and K4 Supply decals. I’d been building up my NdeM fleet and decided I wanted newer rolling stock and to diversify my roster to additional roads, specifically the Pacific Railroad and the CHP.

Ferrocarril Chihuahua Al Pacificos versions were factory painted in a deep Orange with the distinctive Tarahumara Indian Runner herald nicely captured by K4 Supply on this set. Many service photos of these have the paint oxidized towards a more bleached out tint over the years so I went with that as that original orange seemed more appropriate on a Plymouth muscle car, nice looking but LOUD.

FCP’s version of the ribbed 50’s were factory painted with the newer “noodle-like” large yellow FCP emblem instead of the spelled-out road name that older box cars got at the factory or the Empalme shop. Like on many US roads the roofs on these box cars were unpainted save for over spray from the car-body sides and the usual accumulation of road grime. This K4 set is for older smooth sided 50’ PS1 versions which were also popular with Mexican roads, but it works for this ribbed car too with some minor changes.

Sarge tells me these Weaver 50’s are FMC’s, my understanding is that CNCF of Mexico assembled versions of Pullman Standards PS-1 for all of the Mexican carriers (including NDM, SBC and FUS) from kits and then later built locally fabricated versions of that design. Close enough for me if you don’t go below the frame rail.

Very nice, Pete, and a subject not often modelled which is always interesting.
