An overnight stay, then? Very good...around here, most everything has you kicked to the curb in a matter of hours.

Other than mopping up after this dog, not much going on here. Work on other projects has pretty much ground to a halt. I'd been working on another cardboard putz-type house in the style of a prewar Sears bungalow, but haven't gotten too far:



The tedious chore of creating window glazing is next, then a porch floor and a roof, along with some other minor details. Not sure when I'll get back to it. The footprint is roughly 4" x 7", so still a bit big for the classic cardboard houses.

The photo is from UP148. I posted it to see if the image exceeded our 850 px size limit. It did not (the images looked so large in UP's posts.) I forgot to delete it after testing the size.

K-liine had a few motor-in-the-truck drives. K-line's are almost silent when running on DC--I cannot hear the drive over the wheel noise on the track.

I don’t see any third-rail pick-up in the original photo of the turbine’s underside.

The first "set" I bought for my kid back in 1996, a pair of O-27 Reading Alco FA units (6-18934) and a set of similarly-schemed O-27 passenger cars:



He was seven at the time and a huge fan of Batman/Power Rangers, so I figured this set was as close to a Dark Knight/Black Ranger set as we might find. Interestingly, I don't think the Reading ever ran an all-black scheme for passenger equipment (could be wrong). Cab units definitely had a black paint scheme, but I'm thinking the black passenger equipment was a bit of a fantasy scheme by Lionel.

On the layout, we ran this as King Coal, the Reading train that ran between Philadelphia and Shamokin, Pennsylvania. We typically ran it with a baggage car, a combo, a couple of coaches, and an observation. We have a VistaDome as offered by Lionel, but rarely used it. VistaDome equipment on such a relatively short-haul eastern train seemed highly unlikely.

Anyway, the "set" hadn't seen track-time in probably two decades (at least), so we got it on the track recently and let it run. Quiet and smooth, it's a terrific conventional runner (even if those pilots are a bit ghastly).

It's a good looking set. Great photo! You artfully hid the gaping hole in the pilot by keeping it in the shadow of the engine.

These modern-era O-27 sized FA units look pretty awful, to be honest. They sit very tall on their trucks and are too short in overall length, leaving them rather disproportionate. I know they're toys, and my kid certainly never complained, but I think the postwar era versions were much nicer. I should look around for an example; I've always thought the black Erie scheme was sharp on the FA.

Lighting is so critical, and taking stuff outside in a diorama setting is a terrific way to get some great shots.

I was in the train room today when the afternoon sun came through the west window and illuminated my door layout.

Thinking out loud... color depends on the light source, camera settings, computer screen, and how the mind creates color from the human eye's input to the brain, and probably other things that I don't know about.

A lot of different shades of green, Wayne, and it's terrifically tough to match. An early set of 600-series passenger cars have been sitting on the workbench waiting for repairs and some touch-ups. The roofs are a mess, so I decided to strip the roofs and repaint them to match. I've been struggling to find a match...even Train Enamel prewar dark green is slightly off:



Granted, ninety years of paint-fade would be hard to replicate, but this is quite noticeable.

Still experimenting...I'm almost tempted to just paint the roofs black.

Menard's and and most stores that sell house paint can match colors, even Walmart.Why can't we?
