Agreed. Never understood the angst of people rushing off to work the next day with 12” of snow on the ground or even 6” for that matter.

Stay home and let the state prep the roads and get first responders out first. Hell every company now has to give every employee paid leave for god knows what. Give ‘em a snow day or 2.

PA. Sprays a liquid brine on the roads. They do this 2 days before a predicted storm. This stuff is destroying cars’ undercarriages. It’s destroying roads and running off in streams. Alternative is blow roads, people stay home for 2 days and let the sun melt what is left. If they predict a storm now. Schools are closed. People can stay home for a day or two. Emergency responders have 4 wheel drive and chains. It would only inconvenience us for 2-3 days

I am very aware of what PA used to do and what they do now. None of that is new. My pick-up had holes in the sides from the real salt that they used to use in the 70's. Back then if you had holes in the side bigger than a quarter, failed inspection.....nice....

Okay, the new part in PA is closing schools - that very, very rarely happened when I was attending school in PA all the way up and through college. Then again, people then knew how to drive in snow and get around. We have marginal at best drivers now.....on dry hughway.

VA & MD and DC finally learned to just close everything and everyone works from home. No muss, no fuss, and no excess stupidity on the roads.

School superintendents are responsible for kids safety. They have fear of law suits if something happens. Same with school bus drivers. They wont taken on the responsibility of 70 kids and a snow covered road.

That's true now, but wasn't when in PA when I in school. The schools made their money staying open and using snow days was seen as problematic to ending the school year on time. Run into summer vacations and then you heard it from parents and vacation sites. School superintendents kept the school open then until the last second.
