My children went to school with kids who were vaccinated against lethal diseases like measles, polio, etc. If you want your children and grandchildren to avoid vaccination, you're going to have to home school them or send them to schools founded by and populated with religious fanatics who don't believe in vaccines. Just average people with values that emphasize that government is there to protect the weak and needy, facilitate progress in science, medicine and the humanities, defend us against evil people domestic and foreign, and generally promote the common good. This means spending money and taxing those who have benefited most from our society. That is, the wealthy. You cannot keep a military, build roads and airports, educate our children, fund the NSF and NIH and have a decent health care system without taxation. The notion that minimum taxation is an important goal is an idiotic notion supported by fringe economists with a decidedly 18th century outlook .

They are not better human beings than Mitch McConnell or John McCain, just a bit wiser and more progressive. They are decidedly better human beings and leaders than Donald Trump and his slavish followers who are in some instances corrupt (Trump) or genuinely nuts (Giuliani, Boebert, Greene). They are much more moderate than the occasional left wing member of the Democratic party such as Bernie, who is still a good bit closer to sane and humane than the aforementioned Republican nutjobs.

It's all about averages. The average Democrat politician these days is usually reasonably sane and humane. These days, a significant number of Republican leaders are racist, xenophobic, heartless, religious fanatics or simply self-interested MAGA cynics. Everyone is self-interested, some more dangerously so than others. The temptation to take advantage of your position for personal gain is ubiquitous, and there are good examples from both parties of people that have gone too far in this regard. It's what they get done for the nation that counts. The Democrats have achieved more meaningful legislation in less than two years than the Republicans did in four by a wide margin. That matters.

Pennsylvania requires children to have many vaccines. About 40 before they enter school ( Public, private or homeschool) You can apply for an exemption on the grounds of medical. religious. or moral. During covid. This was challenged. Someone in PA's government said "bring proof". That same person said it must be a recognized religion." He or she then said " the pope has not denounced the vaccine" A few days later the Hasidic said our people don't need it" They were allowed a religious exemption. Next came the moral exemption challenge. That won in court almost a year after it was challenged. Basically PA school students need all vaccines with the exemption of covid. This year before the start of the school year. Our daughter needed a physical. All kids need one. If you can't afford it. You can go to county services. They will do it for free. They will come to you if you can't get there. If you don't have it done. They may take your child( I don't know if they have ever taken away a child for this) We're going the homeschool route again. It's a better education. with only one drawback. We are again a one income family.
I'm using school vouchers as part of my platform. After diving into it. I found out private and religious schools are funded by the state. " Dirty little secret" Subsidized books, busing, playground equipment along with lot other things. School vouchers can be spun lots of ways. Parents want to see a check of $11,000 go to the school of their choice or they feel the school got nothing. meanwhile that same school gets 2.8 million in textbooks.

Well, anyone who has any intelligence and knowledge knows that legislation is rarely designed to fix things immediately. Civil rights legislation has helped, but racism still exists, obviously. The interstate highways weren't built in a year or two. So it's going to take time.

Sure there are problems. But most of them are either due to forces beyond our control (the pandemic, inflation, supply chain problems) or the result of government neglect over the last 20-30 years (mostly during Republican controlled executive and/or Congressional periods). Climate change. Infrastructure neglect. Worsening public education. But things that actually matter are getting better due to the action of Democratic administrations. Healthcare for one. Many fewer uninsured individuals. Unemployment is the lowest in history (probably not due to government action). A real start towards minimizing climate change, shoring up our educational and healthcare systems. Improving our critical manufacturing infrastructure (a bipartisan effort). But at least we don't have a narcissistic psychopath and his nitwit toadies running the country. And Newt Gingrich with his hostile, sociopathic, amoral approach to government and personal life is long gone . Republicans neatly forget that the greatest villains in recent history are mostly Republican. Their incompetence and vile behavior encompassed personal misconduct, support for violent right wing nutjobs, and neglect of the nation's economic and human service needs. Not to mention creating a Supreme Court with a few religious fanatics.
