None of this matters much. Legislation improving education, health care, climate change, energy, national security manufacturing are shortly going to all be in place. Inflation and supply chain issues (not really subject to government action) give some sign of easing. Unemployment is at an all time low. The markets are starting to recover so folks' retirement accounts should be in better shape, including pension plans. Crime is still up but is way below the peaks of 1970s and 1980s and the pandemic is under better control. Now it doesn't really matter who controls the Senate or House in 2023-24, since it's likely anything really despicable can be vetoed by the President. After Jan 2025, it may be another deal, but it remains to be seen. By then, some coastal cities may be under water part time, and some areas of the country may be simply too hot to live in. That's a potential challenge to the stability of the economy and quality of life, but there's little we can do about it now. Too damn late perhaps.

Needed legislation may need to be bipartisan, although the Republicans are out of practice :).

Sensible and non-conspiracy theorist people can sleep soundly for the next 2.5 years in all likelihood. Radical violent nutjobs can still cause local harm but the Republic has survived a narcissistic wildman as President and a would be insurrection has been largely put down.

Nowhere to go but up from here.

My kids went to public schools, albeit in one of the best school districts in the USA according to some metrics, and with high school taxes (though cheaper than private school tuition). These schools weren't perfect but they were pretty good. I'm the product of public schools whilst my wife went exclusively to Catholic schools in England. We both turned out reasonably well. :) So I don't think one can generalize. There are good and not so good public and private schools. We have almost no private schools in the western NY state area, so that's one thing.

We have a special today. A dick saw or an addadicktome. This is what you end up with when you elect Democrats. Who in their right mind would have ever thought you’d send little Timmy off to school one day only to find out he wants to become a girl because his teacher encouraged such a thought or behavior. These people are sick!

Some of the kids will tell you their name and pronouns. Our public school had banned human growth classes and talking about sex ed. My wife is looking for a non faith based private school or co-op. For our kid.

Good luck. Our experience has been that most of the coops are faith based.

You can't really believe that some coastal areas will be under water and it will be so hot in some areas that it will be unlivable.

Nothing to worry about, even if it were to happen. None of us will be around to see it happen in the distant future...

"You can't really believe that some coastal areas will be under water and it will be so hot in some areas that it will be unlivable."

Temperatures of 120 and 130 degrees Fahrenheit, recorded in numerous places in the world, including parts of the USA, are incompatible with human life. Higher temperatures will not be able to be mitigated even with air conditioning. Happening now and almost certain to get worse.
Parts of Miami now regularly underwater. If the polar ice sheets and Greenland ice sheet melt, sea levels could rise by feet, not inches. Highly likely in the next 50-100 years and perhaps sooner. Not a question of belief but actual events. No one knows exactly how long it will take, but these events will happen in the lifetime of our children in all likelihood, and perhaps our own if we live another 20 years. If you have grandchildren, the world they live in may be unrecognizable to those of us alive today. Not good news, but the likely future.

Parenthetically, having readily available, wind, tide, solar and geothermal energy will possibly enable civilization to survive during the period between now and when climate change is under control. So the recently passed bill supporting these efforts may be key to the USA remaining habitable.

Kool-aid anyone?

Now here you have a post from the highly educated Dr Monkeypox. He doesn’t sound real confident that global warming actually exists. Rest assured however you should live and die by his very word since he is a Yale graduate and highly intelligent. Never mind that he has to have his maid snap together his fast track around the Christmas tree each year as it stumps him. Regardless, you should trust what he says fully with regards to global warming.

I have decided just in case Dr Monkeypox is right, I’m building my next layout 54” instead of the current 42” height. I’d like to be able to run my trains through all of this.

It also has come to the attention of the FBI that Donald Trump has accumulated 2.6 million dollars in overdue fees at his local library for non-returned items :).

It has been written that the earth has leaned in rotation an additional 1 & 1/2 degrees on its axis in the past few years. If you think of the position of the equator verses the year long rotation around the sun, would not some parts of the world become hotter in the summer, and other parts below the equator become somewhat cooler, especially for those countries closest to the equator? Is it possible that this could cause parts of the ice caps to be in warmer temperatures at certain times of the year, yet other parts could be colder at other times? If any of this is true, how will the hundreds of billions of our tax dollars save us? How will scientists re-right the axis tilt and get us out of this mess? Just askin'. Once they get the money, I would expect the work to get started immediately as this is a shovel ready project thought about for years by the "save the climate" people.
