There is a minor kerfuffle going on that may be related distantly to this thread. I am not following it closely, and not sure what the actual controversy is, but it seems to involve Harry Heike and Alan Arnold - I don't think they are adversaries.

If I am remembering correctly, Joe Giannovario once posted a set of photos of a 2-rail N&W engine that Harry had done a extremely poor job on - Joe had named his pictures something like "Harry's Mess #1", "Harry's Mess #2", etc. My memory is that Joe then shipped the engine off to Matt Forsyth and Matt fixed the mess - I think Matt had to completely disassemble it and start over.

The thread was probably on the old OST forum, which is gone now. I think Joe had posted a thread about what a beautiful job Matt had done for him and the only way you could tell who had messed up the engine was to read the filenames on the photos.

Joe passed away in 2013, so Harry probably would have done that engine back in 2011 or earlier.

Dunno who Todd was - I thought you were talking about Martin. I glanced at the OGR/Heike thing, but it didn't grab me - the only thing I noted was that Arnold was banned from some other forum, and is/was mentioning that he had agreed to, and not violated, their TOS. It is almost like he copied my response before he banished me.

My guess is the whole thing, from one end to the other, is a silly internet squabble. We handle those rather well here - the sky does not fall when Hondo and I disagree.

Oh- and I am courageous enough to let my actual name be known. I really should have been bob turner instead of bob2 over there. My opinions are not anonymous; I own them. More explicitly, Robert is slightly more aligned with the Club Car majority than am I.

PS - egad - Joe has been gone for nine years?

I recall legal beagles many years ago held forth in a forum on some of this stuff.
Seem to recall the site owners have dictatorial rights UNTIL they accept money for "membership" or whatever they choose to call it.
Then the rules changed.

I don't really know about the train forum, except Arnold or somebody characterizes it as a place where banished OGR types go. Angry old men are everywhere on the internet - I have learned to not take anything personally. It is just so easy to type dumb stuff and hit the "submit" button - most of us would get along just fine in person.

There seem to be about five of us here, so there is no way I would chase Hondo out - and would hope that Martin and Bryan relent some day. I bet all of us could have an amiable conversation in person.

But if you want uninhibited, robust, wide open freedom of expression, this forum is among the most tolerant - and for that I am grateful. It really helps to see how your buddies think.

I was on 0GF for a while. Realized early on they were just doing the 0GR bit slightly different.

I had some surplus bits, dozens of new traction tires, Lionel, MTH, K-Line, maybe Williams, steam and diesel, offered them up on that forum, "cost of shipping".
Should have known when the recipient couldn't be bothered to read/answer his e-mail, acknowledge receipt...and NEVER sent me the shipping. Wasn't much, just the principle. And suddenly a bunch of new traction tires showed up on evilbait shortly thereafter.

Multiple reminders. Just gave up. Probably his plan.

Watched the shenanigans on the forum, and quit.

Come on, their idea of modeling is a thousand dollars worth of cast automobiles clustered around a big station?

Not 2 rail but I do have two brass Williams engines that I bought years ago when I got the hots for brass but they are 3rail Plus I have many brass freight cars. Including two from 3rd rail. An outside braced boxcar and a coal car. I always kept them in their boxes. The last time I removed them from the boxes the trucks had disintegrated. Have any suggestion for replacements. These are also 3rail

This might have been a common problem as the last time I looked for brass cars on the internet I saw some that were for sale with the trucks that looked like mine.

Dave - win some, lose some. I have sent stuff to folks without a return thank-you, but on the whole, I owe folks. Pay it forward; you will reap benefits multiple times over. That has been true for me in spades. I really don't think I deserve my good fortune.

Scale trucks - look for plastic Athearn. Usually 2-rail trucks interchange quite well. I use Lobaugh, but they are quite crude. Post a photo of your problem; maybe we can help.

I agree with you 100%

I had a neighbor 2 house down. who has since passed away. We had a lot in common and that we worked together on things but we were political opposites and we would argue about politics but at the end we would say let's have a drink usually coffee because he was Bi-Polar and took medication. One day he said to me , Your the only conservative friend that I have that I can argue politics with and your still my friend.

Kind of reminded me of this.
Ronald Reagan , and “Tip” O’Neill, Speaker of the House of Representatives were two political opposites. While much of their political partnership was based on smart gamesmanship, Reagan, the Republican, and O’Neill, the Democrat, could put aside their party differences to find solutions. They had mutual respect for each other that separated their ideological bent from the need for basic human decency. Reportedly, the two political rivals were good friends who frequently enjoyed a drink together at the end of the day.
