Nobody can tell these things for sure, but higher vaccination rates and more outdoors living certainly are known factors in severity of infection and death rates. Australia also wasn't as early in the pandemic so lockdowns, masking and staying away from indoor activities began there earlier in their pandemic, so it's no doubt multiple factors.

The New York Times editorial board argued that "canceling student debt across the board" was a bad idea in a Saturday piece.

"The Biden administration should spend its finite resources and political capital on fixing the higher education system to make it more affordable while helping those borrowers in the most distress. There are already ways to do this, although they have not gotten nearly enough attention or resources," the editorial board argued.

The authors wrote that fixing "a shattered system" via executive order could make things worse and would "set a bad precedent."

just to be clear there is no plan to eliminate student debt, but there is a plan to transfer that debt to those that don't owe it

Robert, they have to print a lot of money to fuel the fire of inflation that they started. Never let your fire go out.

Actually almost all of the increased spending started during the Trump administration and most of us who aren't complete fools supported those efforts to mitigate harm through government spending on keeping businesses going, poor and working class people from being evicted or otherwise harmed and medical programs. The Biden budget looks better because the deficit is decreasing due to the end of the Trump administration relief spending. Not necessarily a good thing mind you since we are trying to avoid causing suffering and a recession to boot. The idea that government spending is always bad that conservatives seem to be wed to in conflict with actual facts, has been disproven by WWII, amongst other little episodes.

Here we go again. When is this $hit going to stop. We pulled out of Afghanistan and now we are going to go fight Muslims in Africa :(
When Obama was president my oldest grandsons National guard unit was called up and he spent one year in Afghanistan. Now his unit is being called up again and he has been notified he is going to Africa.

WTF is so important about Africa. ??

A senior U.S. defense official has confirmed to Fox News on Monday that President Joe Biden has authorized the deployment of hundreds of Special Operations troops inside Somalia.

The decision comes alongside approval of a Pentagon request for standing authority to target about a dozen suspected leaders of the al-Shabab terrorist group that operates inside the east African country’s borders, the official said.

Somalia: President Biden reverses Trump's withdrawal of US troops

US officials say President Biden has approved the redeployment of US troops in Somalia, reversing a decision by his predecessor Donald Trump.

President Trump withdrew about 700 US troops from Somalia in 2020.

The kind of moron who applauds barbarians like Elise Stefanik and Tucker Carlson supporting the racist, xenophobic, anti-semitic "replacement theory?" Who seek the support of the fringe radical elements of the religious and political right that encourage the deranged violence against racial and religious minorities?

Yes, only a moron could applaud those sorts of barbaric concepts. As for the pandemic and world-wide economic stress, well, nobody but a moron could blame those on politics like some of the dim witted, misinformed wackos here.

Some drink from the fountain of knowledge but apparently Dr Dumberg only gargled.

Gross misuse of the language from someone that allegedly is so intelligent and well informed. Believing and regurgitating whatever insanity the likes of Chuck Schumer and CNN tell you to think. The epitome of naivety.

Barbarians are the people of your party that applaud 3rd trimester partial birth abortions where they deliver the head, stab it in the neck suck it’s brains out and throw it in the toilet and call it a blob of cells. All the while claiming to be concerned for woman and their rights.

Your parents are disappointed in you Dr Dumberg

Wow! Haven't checked in in a while.

If the rest of society is like this part of MTJ, we will have a second Trump administration in two more years, right after the entire congress goes MAGA - there is a new acronym, but I forget what it is. The Supreme Court is lost for the rest of my life, with no possibility of any change there.

Being a flaming liberal in my early 80's, I am here to tell you that I do not care - I will never need an abortion, and have no offspring to worry about where their next glass of water is coming from. I am still burning leaded avgas by the truckload, polluting your atmosphere, and wondering when we will have the courage to stop the destruction and carnage of Ukraine. We do have the ability, apparently.

If you would rather have the MAGA party elect our representatives, you would be stacking up well with your fellow world citizens. Very few, apparently, are at all interested in "one person, one vote." I will probably skate through the next Trump administration unscathed, and after that I doubt it will matter to me.
