Biden has just ordered auto makers to reach 49mpg by model year 2026! Even worse, the EPA passed an order, (CAFE Standards), (it's not legislation because they're just bureaucrats) that the factories must reach an average of 55mpg by the same year! In less than 4 years! I wonder if the auto makers were apprised of this or did the government just spring the mandate on them, which is what they usually do. New model year vehicles are engineered 4 to 5 years before we ever see them at the dealerships. It looks like it's gonna be "back to the drawing board" for the auto industry costing hundreds of millions, (even billions), in engineering and reengineering, and forcing the industry to "pull a rabbit out of the hat" with newer technology which does not yet exist. Government does not care about or how they reach the standard. They have only to MANDATE, and leave the industry scrambling for a solution. In the end, we all pay.
