The Defender-class boat, also called Response Boat – Small (RB-S) and Response Boat – Homeland Security (RB-HS), is a standard boat introduced by the United States Coast Guard in 2002. The boats serve a variety of missions, including search and rescue, port security and law enforcement duties and replaces a variety of smaller non-standard boats.

You are on the right track, Hondo, but this Whatzit is not a Coast Guard Defender-class boat. For one thing, it is owned by Suntex. There are three that operate out of Grider Hill Marina on Cumberland Lake, Kentucky.

A small boat that's used to maneuver large boats like a house boat into the slips at the marina

It's their (Suntex Services) on-site service boats. Kind of like a handyman's van but for water craft. On site service for mechanical, electrical, HVAC for these large elaborate house boats. I think these were featured in a recent episode of Top Chef (Season 16) when they had to fix a house boats electrical system during one of the challenges and they could not tow the boat into the marina and pull it out of the water.

The front of the service boat looks like it takes a lot of abuse pushing those big house boats around.

The service boats also are used for rescue of anyone on the lake who calls for help. Members of Suntex Services receive help free of charge.

Just bicycling to the mail box is an adventure in discovery. Yesterday I saw a 2 inch wide Dandelion flower and stopped to photograph it. A yard away was this flower. Whatzit?

Mine have blooms setting up in high numbers this year.

You did it again, Chuck. Yes, Crested Dwarf Iris (Iris cristata.)

I have never seen one before, they do not grow wild in Tucson. When I first saw it, with its three flowers in one, I called it a Trinity Flower.

We had many irises in Ohio and Kentucky but not in this part of Georgia.

Yes, Pittsburgh, too, Roger, back in the 50's . Our backyard was bordered on three outer edges with them, with violets at their ankles.
