Crovan K4 pulling Pomona cars

Happy New Year ! Crovan PRR K4 from the early 1930's repowered by Jerry White in the 50's 60's ....runs like a dream ...pulling a ScaleCraft reefer and Pomona Streamlined cars from 1940-41.
K4 is Happy for the exercise ...locked in a traveling case wrapped in 1987 newspaper .....add a bit of oil , turn motor over a few times ...add voltage ..springs alive ! When the headlight works .. you know it's a good running engine .

Seriously good looking, and runs beautifully. I note that CroVan used the MRR Cyclopedia boiler contour, like USH.

So after you awoke it from a 30+ year sleep it ran just the way a Lionel loco would.
Yes, I do know there is a lot of difference.

Hello all

The cars I believe are factory built by Pomona ...they knew what they were doing ..Pomona built some beautiful cars ....just too few of them,...rather hard to find these days .

Pomona would sell you a whole train ..mirroring the prototype car consist . Many car sets were listed in thier catalog ....hopefully more are out there yet to be found.

This engine will crawl or highball ...set the voltage and walk away ....up and down the grade ...smooth,smooth ...

This is one of those engines that will be running hundreds of years from now ...it's already nearing 90 ...granted it's had a heart transplant .

That's my point. Many Lionel locos, as I'm sure you know, are still running after70 + years with minimum maintenance.
And I know there is not much comparison. Also please understand that I like trains of any type and any size.

Roger you're not not too far off, the older prewar kit-built (like Mi-Loco, SCM, etc) and early KTM import steamers often run like watches on old-school layouts too like on Carey's or the Atlanta club's high iron (literally... hand- laid, bronze and steel, code 172)
My experience the newer stuff not so much, though (opinion) it's not really built to run on that kind of environment like the power and track we're employing (blazing analog DC, sans command control, no code 125 or 148, and the ridiculously heavy rolling stock often with comparatively crappy trucks)

Those Pomona Valley cars are gorgeous too and big (17/64)
