Pretty sure that they still are since the vaping controversy that the FDA had at the top of the list of agenda items got pushed aside.

Everything got pushed aside when the BAT virus started....

The voters in New Jersey have approved legal recreational Pot. Now Murph can hang out with the homies and hoodies and have a good time.

I wonder how long it will be before MS13 moves in to help control the drug trade for the cartels on the east coast.

The cartels don't bother smuggling pot into California, They grow it in the state with the help from all the illegal migrants. Those people needs jobs and they work cheap. Californians pay for their health care and education

Legalizing and medicalizing drugs of abuse/addiction would bring prices down and help get organized crime (mostly) out of those businesses. And increase tax revenues in all likelihood. And lead to fewer deaths amongst addicts. Win/win/win is a reasonable prediction. ;)

When alcohol became legal after the end of prohibition, organized crime basically got out of the boot legging business.

Here is a Win Win for you Neil. One of the questions on the federal background check forum for the purchase of a firearm is do you use drugs. If you answer yes that ends the sale. If you answer no and you use drugs You just committed a felony.

Now think about all the states that now have legal Recreational Marijuana all the people that are buying are not legal to buy a firearm. I think all the dispensaries should be required to record all the individuals names and turn it into the feds to keep these drug addicts from buying a firearm. Can't pass a background check And if they try to buy a firearm they are now a felon and should be put in jail

1st, you might ask why the Feds are not enforcing the laws regarding marijuana use to start with - it's still not legal by federal law. So, getting dispensaries to keep such records seems a little unlikely. But there's nothing stopping Feds / DEA from seizing those records if they exist now and chasing after everybody.

But, let's add all the prescription drugs that have all sort of side effects that can affect judgement and behavior added to that list to check off. That's a real long list. BTW, statins can trigger anger, violence, and suicidal behavior. And, just think of all the jobs created by doing al that data entry and tracking and surveillance. We do need a bigger Gov't intruding in everyone's lives.

So there are two separate issues here. Firstly, if you are an originalist you know the Founding Fathers and their crew had no intention of every Tom, Dick and Harry owning a musket. So the Second Amendment clearly states that to be entitled to protection of having a firearm, you need to be part of a well regulated militia. I would suggest that most Americans who own firearms are not part of a state or local militia sanctioned by local government. So the bull artists like Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia who claim the Second Amendment restricts state laws about who can purchase an automatic weapon are sophists and hypocrites.

So let's say you pass a law that restricts those with mental illness and felons, etc. from owning weapons. Why restrict it to those who use marijuana, heroin and cocaine just because a bunch of hypocritical white males think those drugs are bad, but man, whiskey and rye are just fine? Are those laws constitutional? Doubtlessly no. Alcohol is behind more illegal behavior and shootings than any combination of illegal drugs. So the laws are both discriminatory and idiotic, with no basis in law nor in science. We have generations of black men in prison because racist white men have made their behavior with intoxicants illegal while those white men and their families are busy getting equally intoxicated and killing people with guns and cars with legal drugs. Appalling hypocrisy and socially destructive because of stupidity and racism, mostly. Nothing medically sound or scientific about the idiot laws you are using to put people in jail or restrict their lives.

So those who want to put people in jail for lying about using marijuana when applying for a pistol permit, etc. are the same people who think we should arrest any peaceful demonstrators who object to police murdering citizens. Each point of view belongs in a fascist state, not a Republic founded to support equal rights under the law. We're a country where a significant part of the population is quite happy to have a dictatorship of toxic white males controlling the reproductive rights of females of all backgrounds :). Psychopaths, liars and fascists in many cases, like our current President, who right now is spewing a constant stream of treasonous lies that undermine the basis of our society.
