Delmar Gardens was an amusement park in Oklahoma City that operated briefly (1902-1910). We still have a roller rink here in the county, Sportsman's Hall, and I think Hanover, Pa. still has one, The Elms.

The CCW seems to have been around for quite a long time, most sources giving a founding date in 1911 (although a few say one or two years earlier), continuing until 1963 and its acquisition by the Iowa Terminal Railroad. Originally chartered to connect Charles City, Iowa, to the Rock Island at Marble Head, Iowa. Apparently it began operations with gas-powered equipment, but electrified in 1915.

Once upon a time they were just about everywhere and you could travel considerable distances on these lines.......and then we decided that buses were better........

Yes, I recall looking at a map of Massachusetts with Sarge that was produced sometime during the first couple decades of the 20th century. It showed that nearly the entire state had access to electric railways, even towns located deep in the Berkshires. It would be interesting to look at the capital requirements for founding and constructing a rural electric railway...must not have been much considering how many there were.

A lot of those were might have been subsidiaries of electric power companies; where they were running wire to towns they ran a trolley/interurban line for both passenger and freight to capture 2 commercial properties. When the trolley/interurban lines stopped being profitable, they still had the electric power utility company.

That's a very good point. Many lines were conjoined with utilities (like the Hagerstown & Frederick, a subsidiary of Potomac Edison).

Seems to me that most of the "Northern" states had rather large interurban/electric lines covering large parts of the states. Maps that I am remembering
of Ohio show most of the state well covered except for the southeastern part. Some of the routes would have been a little strange but they could get you where you wanted to go.

Can you or ANYONE HERE please tell me how you are able to post photos but when I go to post photos -- I click on ADD FILES -- and that takes me to the photos (folders, etc) on my computer --- there I select a photo -- click on "OPEN" where the file name is at bottom of my photos -- and get taken to the MTJ page where the photo file name is displayed as well as its (usually small) file size. At right of that box, I see a Triangle with a YELLOW "!" inside --- and when I click ADD FILES - I get I get a popup that states - SORRY, THE BOARD ATTACHMENT QUOTA IS REACHED. And thus It is not possible for me to post photos. So I note you and others have been doing so daily -- so how does it work for you ? And not me ? Thanks for any advice !

I sent a notice email to the MTJ feedback-contact section and never got any reply on this problem I have been having. I never had this problem for all my years on MTJ since day one when MTJ started operating !!

Hi Joe - all the photos I’ve posted here are either links to my Flickr repository, or a link back to another website, i.e. a photo on an historical society site, Library of Congress, or elsewhere. I’ve never loaded/linked via the MTJ repository, as it seems to be chronically maxed out.

In the past I was able to post photos as Joe mentions then MTJ maxed out but others post photos by using a hosting service.

All my photos are hosted elsewhere; I stopped uploading photos to multiple sites many years ago and currently just have them all centralized at Smug Mug such that I can use them anywhere I choose.

You've been lucky as this has been a regular failing here for many years. You just must have missed the other occurrences!

Storage capacity here is apparently quite limited, but I am not using any of it.
