and I'm certain it comes with supporting documents from Lionel stating that, right?

On the other hand, here you can buy a shell:

and it comes with horns.....and no lousy masking job....

Other than poor masking....to claim it's a pre-production Lionel prototype based upon say-so by some previous owner is ludicrous.

You can see the Rio Grande lettering under the paint when you study the pics. By no means does that make it a factory paint sample. Nor does labeling a tag "prototype" and tying it to the coupler.

My wife gets tired of hearing that "I can't see" something but I really can't see the things you guys mentioned. :(
I'm only saying it looks good to me. Factory prototype would need some proof.
Now what about the price, reasonable or not?

Whenever a listing says something along the lines of "review photos carefully", yeah, that's pretty much indicative of it being something other than what it's listed as (either in terms of the provenance, or the condition). Nope, best to push back from the keyboard...

and the question now is, did it sell for what it's worth or did the "winner" end up with a home made repaint of a Rio Grande POS with a tag that's worth less than 1/3 of selling?
