Pelosi orders removal of portraits of Confederate predecessors
https://news.yahoo.com/pelosi-orders-re ... 58475.html

Washington — Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Thursday that she had ordered the removal from the Capitol of four portraits of former House speakers who served in the Confederacy during the Civil War. The portraits were removed later on Thursday afternoon.

Thomas Ludwig John D'Alesandro Jr was an American politician who was a U.S. Representative from Maryland's 3rd congressional district (1939–47) and subsequently the mayor of Baltimore, Maryland (1947–59). He was the father of Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Patricia Pelosi, the first female Speaker of the House, and Thomas D'Alesandro III, also a mayor of Baltimore.

In 2017, conservative commentators noted that in 1948, D'Alesandro dedicated the Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee Monument in his capacity as Mayor of Baltimore, along with the then-Governor of Maryland, William Preston Lane Jr

Do you suppose Nancy will condemn her father for his past behavior. :?:

Does she have the authority to give those orders?

That doesn’t seem to matter anymore.

A statue of former President Ulysses S. Grant-- the Union general who led his army to victory against the Confederacy during the Civil War-- was toppled on Friday as hundreds gathered in San Francisco to celebrate Juneteenth.

GEORGE WASHINGTON STATUE KNOCKED OVER IN PORTLAND, DRAPED IN US FLAG

During his tenure in the White House, Grant advocated for the civil rights of former slaves and helped ratify the Fifteenth Amendment, which gave blacks the right to vote.

While Grant allowed pardons for former Confederate leaders, he also passed laws that limited the activities of the Klu Klux Klan to prevent them from terrorizing African Americans.

Critics of the former president point to the fact that he owned a slave, who may have been gifted to him but was freed before the beginning of the war.

Well, to paraphrase our idiot President, there are stupid people on both sides of the debate :). Ulysses S. Grant was a force for justice in our society and a key person in defeating the Confederacy, which stood for much that was wrong with the founding of our country.

Frankly, it is time to remove tributes to Confederate heroes from our public places. Put them in museums where they belong. Confederates were on the side of a truly vile cause and, of course, violent and traitorous advocates of perpetuating one of the great injustices in human history. To be remembered but not honored.

"To be remembered but not honored."

That's pretty good, Neil. That's in the vault for future use. Thanks (!)

Empty your safety deposit boxes. Money will be next. All denominations will be recalled. all people living in the USA will be issued a US Bank card. It will be credited with the amount of vile paper and coin money you turn in. Your social security and pensions will also be credited to this card. employers will deposit your weekly earnings into this account. You may choose to have a digital form of payment on your cellphone. Either way it will be a touch free transaction at the checkout. People will stand in line 6 feet apart Walking slowly towards the register. We will be masked. Our purchases will be limited in number of items. Counted b y the new US bank card. If you try to buy one extra item. a buzzer will go off. That item will fall through the register scanner and return t the shelving. We have gone from sheeple to minions. Please move forward other are in line.

Are you predicting our future.? That's an interesting prophecy. Is that from a liberal or conservative viewpoint. ??

I'm as middle of the road as double yellow lines. If statues are offensive. Then our money must be also. I really feel that the government has been trying to remove cash sales. here is their chance. Push the fact that we have nasty out dated men only on our money (with the exception of a few quarters and a dollar coin). All white men with a bad history. i saw with my own eyes their statues removed. Cranes hoisted them away. only to be smashed by people standing there applauding the removal. Now you want me to honor their face in a transaction to feed my family. Noway i'm going to us a photo of Grant to feed my family. To quote a famous forum member Mr Turner " opinion only"

This country's climate dictates . The removal of our currency system. To answer your question. Predicting the future.

Sad, but there doesn't seem to be a voice of reason in the crowd. And, I'm afraid even if it spoke out, it would be labeled politically incorrect for not going along with the mayhem. We have a coup led by emotionally charged idiots who don't even know who or what they should attack to change what they don't like. Scary. Everything Pelosi does is for political gain, no matter how sincere she sounds and as good at it, as anyone on either side of the aisle.

Robert
Thanks for the explanation. I wasn't associating the pictures on the money with what you were saying. :)

If we are going to remove all the statues and pictures of those that may have a tainted past and rewrite history we should eliminate all of it. Lets eliminate the civil war battlefields and all the Civil War reenactment.

Build some low cost housing for the homeless and disadvantaged people on those battle fields. Maybe we can get this to the point where slavery didn't exist.

I'm once again reminded of the George Carlin Quote: " Think of how stupid the average person is, and realize half of them are stupider than that". If you look backwards in history you will find few living or acting by 21st Century standards, nor is it reasonable to expect such. This movement is the ultimate slippery slope that has no ending and will solve nothing. It's the result of anatomy that consists of a bleeding heart and an absent brain.
