Minty! (?)
https://www.ebay.com/itm/LIONEL-6017-PO ... 4298757084
Now ya know what to do with your box of Lionel Cabeese with broken roof corners. Sell the frame alone, and call it Minty!
Standard run-of-the mill tab mount with single disc coupler. Not worth the cost of shipping. I have a box full of those trucks, so don't need any more! Needle point, fast angle......car is 5, shipping is 6, makes it an $11 trash can filler.

Dave. You have way too much time on your hands. What would you do if you didn't have ebay to keep you amused

Re: Minty! (?)
prolly go nuts. Need breaks. Just finished three SG engines. Dallee conversions, repairs....did you know there are two sized armature shafts on 385E's? Did you know if you have the .112" shaft, that all parts available are for .125" shafts? And that there is a collared bearing you have to drill for to fit?
Arrrrrrrrrrrrrggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh.

Re: Minty! (?)
I have a 385E but have never worked on one. Got it from Gordon Bragg back in the late 70s. He had won it in a raffle. Made me a good deal on it because I used to help him do things. Wish I could have got more from his collection.

Bragg.....I knew a guy by that name in Anaheim when I was a kid sold trains and did repairs out of his garage. Late 50's, early 60's.

You suppose that the caboose superstructure will show up for sale in a few days?
Somebody with the top could have been looking for sometime for this so they
could have a SF style caboose that cost much more that it is worth.

True! That frame is a "tab" frame, has two tabs, one on each end, that bend over the deck of the plastic body. No screws. No rear coupler, and short of finding a matching coupler truck, drilling out the rivet, and mounting it.....those are fast angle trucks, axles fixed to wheels, so no universal coupler to bend the tabs over an axle that doesn't move.
No tool boxes. No redeeming social value.

Its not worth the time to sell. An $11.00 sale total. $1.50 goes towards fees. That comes out of your $4.99. giving you a whopping $3.49 net. 20 minutes to do the listing and 10 to pack. You'll make $6.98 an hour. If your item was free. Mickee dee's pays better

You left out the cost of packing and a box, or at least the scavenging of the same, but then there's the trip to the PO.
20 min to do the listing?
$6.98 an hour and no one wants to work at Mickee dee's

It's not about money. It's about the rarity of this object. No one else would have anything just like it.

I think the item has been mis-characterized.
It should be "Minty-fresh!"

Here's the foil. "uncommon", 1962 only....looks like Bob-s Floor Wax applied.
Standard, cheap, set caboose, tab mounted, no rear coupler, rollers or lights, older plastic trucks with wheels loose on axles like PT-1's.
Maybe this could go behind the Italian UP 4-8-4?
Non-ladder version, altho roof is slotted for them. No toolboxes or brakewheels.
Hundred bucks plus shipping. Note below:
https://www.tandem-associates.com/lione ... aboose.htm
"Note that only the number "6017" appears on the sides of the car. The box was numbered "6017-235" on the ends. A blackened sheet metal chassis with hand rails fastens to the body with tabs. This caboose came AAR trucks with one disc coupler. There are no variations.
Compare this caboose to the No. 6357-50 that was issued in the "Over and Under" set in 1960. Counterfiet copies of this caboose have been made by adding a smoke stack and lighting to the No. 6017-235 illustrated here which is common. Collectors should pay special attention to the number that is heat-stamped on the sides of this caboose."
No variations. He is specific as to 6017-235, which has, again, no variations...and no stack. Someone drilled the roof (see the glue smudges around the stack?) to make a counterfeit 6357?
At least he tells us:
"Caboose comes as shown and it appears that someone has added a smoke stack as can be seen in photos. "....he did some of his homework but left the part about "counterfeit" out...and the fact that for a true collector it is now worthless.

Re: Minty! (?)
I can understand operators converting that common 6017, since they're painted and have Santa Fe markings. I've seen them with 6457 toolbox frames with brake wheels and ladders. Too bad someone did such a shitty job, on the stack installation. Lionel did put stacks on some of their cheap, later unpainted cabooses.

True. I do it myself. But to try to bamboozle a neophyte collector with an "uncommon" POS set caboose for $200 that isn't anymore is unconscionable.
