Kewl!

Good price. NOT a 2333 set, but at least THIS seller gives us a shot of the 2353 number boards. Looks correct as far as number boards, portholes, sideframe color, even the battery cover for horn in dummy unit.
How do we know it's the dummy unit?

Image

First, no slot for e-unit lockout lever....but:
Middle unit, left truck, see the metal flatcar stake stuck across the magnetized wheels? Or, same unit, right truck, flatwasher AND a horseshoe washer stuck to magnetized wheels?

Heckuva deal, there. Not only reasonable pricing for an A-B-A set of Santa Fe F38 EMD engines, plus flatcar stake, flatwasher, and horseshoe washer.

"Vintage Lionel Corporation Diesel SantaFe Locomotive 2333-20 (Stamped on Bottom) & Dummy w/Train Car General Motors Type F38 Diesel Electric Unit, O Guage, Set Has Not Been Tested. Made In USA."

Sort of hard to test with all that paraphernalia stuck to the bottom of the power trucks.

Do those extra small parts make this a "rare" set not often seen for sale?

I support thread drift.

Meh....
The owls may indeed not be what they seem but still serve an imperative function: they remind us to look into the darkness.
