Re: Coronavirus:
BTW, I just returned from the Fairway MKT near me, having put off going to any store, for quite some time, these past several weeks. But I could see I was running out of gal. jugs of Arizona Green Tea, even in my back-up storage in the garage, and I knew I had parsed-out tootpaste and mouthwash, as long as I could, so thought I'd take a chance of getting more. Interesting experience.
To wear a facemask, I had make-shifted one out of an old very long sweat-sock, tied in the back into a knot, and it covered and held onto my nose and mouth just fine. I wore surgical-gloves I had saved from some volunteer hospital work, of years ago, and that covered my hands as I pulled the cart, took things from the shelves, re-loaded the cart, and credit-card paid the bill. And I actually managed to keep my mitts off my face, and even my glasses the whole time.
I off-loaded the cart into the back of the SUV, into cardboard boxes I had there for the purpose, not wanting any germs to be deposited onto the carpeting or upholstery from my purchases. At home, everything went into the sink, leaving the boxes in the garage for discard, got sprayed with disinfectant, where they continue to sit, and I feel good about the adventure, because I had been determined not to go anywhere whatsoever.
Actually, the discussions, here, along this thread on MTJ, helped me make my decision, as well as TV news reports.

Actually, an android. There is a distinction.

This one is relieved.

I wonder if the Amish are following the protocols for social-distancing and wearing protective face-masks.

Same or more than the rest of us.

How many face masks have you made, not only for your community but for others as well? I have made none. In fact I was given one by a construction company because stores were sold out by the time CDC told us, "Changed our mind, now wear face masks."

Many pages back I noted the Amish in Ohio delivering something like 10K masks/day to the Cleveland Clinic and that they had found a more efficient way to make them faster.

Re: Coronavirus:
I'm still trying to make them. I have had various degrees of success, most are only "wearable" for about an hour before they fall apart or slip off my face.
Crazy thing is I have a painters respirator that has twin activated charcoal canisters rated for HVOC but it's an older mask (about 30 years old) and I can't find replacement canisters and more importantly the "dust" cover units are nothing like the modern ones. I think I only used it once for painting and then switched to using it for fall leaf shredding/cleanup. It had a soft vinyl face seal and it didn't fog up my eyeglasses. I've tried to find substitutes for the filters but so far none have worked well. Pretty sure the originals were rated N99. I've also looked for "adaptors" to use more modern canisters/filters. No go on that either.
Hardest part of mask making was a) fixing/relearning how to use my daughters sewing machine and b) getting a pair of scissors sharp enough for cutting fabric cleanly. Lots of scissors in the house and they do fine for cutting paper and thin plastic. Not so hot on fabric. I've ordered a rotary cutter. We'll see how long it takes to get here.
Red Wings equipment manage helped GM solve a mask making problem using equipment/techniques from the NHL. GM was having issues doing final sterilization of newly made masks. It was the main bottleneck. President was friends with one of the Illitch family members who put him in touch with the Red Wing equipment manager. Hockey teams have to clean and sterilize the gear between games and that usually means less than 24 hour turn around time. They use ozone to sanitize the equipment and they have so much stuff that they can't get away with the usual "refrigerator" style machines. They have specialized equipment that allows them to do the entire teams gear in one shot. Since there isn't going to be any hockey anytime soon they have arranged for GM to borrow the equipment (including some other NHL teams) and they have boosted mask production from 1.5
million/month to 3 million/month.
