I think, Neil, that you should "live large and bold" and buy a sponsorship on the OGR Forum. Alan, the new moderator (and owner), might squeeze you in.

:D

(Far less than half kidding here...........)

I'll put that money towards eventually having a real layout :). I wish Alan well; he seems like a decent and thoughtful fellow and it appears that OGR is doing well in terms of pages and advertising revenue, which is good for the hobby. Still like the CTT aesthetics better and enjoy the articles on history, which are more plentiful in CTT. Old man nostalgia.

I agree about CTT. Always been my favorite...since 1987. LOL!

Real layout: Get those TrainWorx guys (and gals) in Dallas to build you one. You deserve it. And, Mike Reagan will visit your place. :D :D

Honestly, I'm a couple of years into my new layout, and, more than once, I've kicked myself for not having TrainWorx build it.

Trainworx probably would build a much nicer looking table and did the whole layout much faster than I built mine but I would not have had the fun that I did building mine. And if I recall the figures that I have seen it would have cost 10-20 times as much money that I don't/didn't have. One thing that is a bit of a sore point with me is that I see Mr.XXXXs layout in a magazine and then see that the builder is not the owner. It seems that most of the layouts featured in the mags are of this type.I do take some small bit of pride in the fact that I built every bit of my layout myself. No, I did not build the buildings or trains from scratch. Most of the buildings are from easy kits.I do give credit to Murph and Rufus for their encouragement to do scenery and to many other members of MTJ for their non physical help.
Just more thread drift.

Having made the run from Arock to Hardplace and back a few times (did we stop in Tween?), I would say that you have absolutely everything to feel good about. I have said before and will say again, please post some photos. I regret not taking any on my last visit! :(

"You deserve it."

I've thought about that many times, and perhaps when I slow down at work, that will finally happen. Mike Reagan would be the guy :).

Dave,
I certainly appreciate your kind comments and enjoyed your visits.
I have never had a photo hosting place and am not sure about how to or even how I did in the past.
I lost alot of photos when my past computer died and the back-up also died. I have been told that can't happen but three folks who do computer
stuff for a living couldn't get the back up to work. Don't ask me to explain because I can't and don't try to help me figure it out because I lost
the back-up. Lost as in physically gone. Can't find it.
I'll try to get some more photos and try to find a way to post them.

The Grumpy Old Men that used to inhabit the prehistoric AOL train groups have now moved to Facebook, and are spreading their misinformation there with the same angry diatribes that used to be common on AOL.
