Postby LS1Heli » Thu Jan 23, 2020 8:01 pm

You guys check out the Lionel 2020 yet!?

I am def. shooting for the NYC Lightning Stripe F3s and maybe that cool Area 51 tower!

It is a big catalog. There is a lot of nice stuff in it. A lot of it is pretty expensive. I give Lionel a lot of credit in the technology department. The upgrades to the LionChief products is really well thought out. Using an app on a cell phone is great way to get little kids involved in the hobby. The marketing tie ins with Disney, WB is also pretty shrewd. I won't be buying any Frozen or Frozen 2 trains myself but I can see where those might catch some kids fancy.

Happy Birthday to the 120 year old company, and hopefully many more to come.

Amen Chuck.

The NYC F-3 is a LC2.0+ engine...so we could control it with a phone. I just hope it looks like the photo, jet black lighting strip PW style. Would be a nice upgrade to a 2175W set, yet at the same time cosmetically fitting it.

I have a 5 & 2 year old so I am burned out of Frozen, but yes extremely shrewd on their part.

I agree with you guys but don't see anything I must have.
But I haven't for several years now.

I, too, did not see anything that interested me.

There are a few must haves for me like the additional scale PE Hobo car and the Star Trek set but I will not pre order anymore engines after the J stripe fiasco until Lionel proves I can order confidently.

If I was recovering from a Frontal Lobotomy and decided I needed anything NYC....for an F-5 I'd look for a 2344. You do know they aren't really F-3's in original production, right? Half chicken wire, half louvers on each side.

I had some NYC F's early on. They are now NP, if I remember.

I have become aware that I have too much stuff, much of which is just the pleasure of accumulation rather than actual play. But as the weeks have worn on, I've become aware that I would very much like the two new sets with illuminated track (Christmas and Area 51), plus some extra straight track, despite the expense (almost 15 bucks per section). So I caved on those gradually. I would have liked the NYC LC +2.0 but restrained myself. I have plenty of NYC diesels accumulated over the last 30 or so years. I would have ordered one of the new O scale cars at $34 each from Charles Ro, but I have too many of those too :). Interesting that Lionel is actively trying to produce less expensive sets and rolling stock at a time when the high end is also expanding.

I think that is where they need to go to start building sales back.

I wonder if Lionel will get enough pre-orders to actually make this uncatalogued Taco Stand?

At $125 I'd be doubtful. Should not be hard to scratchbuild if given the graphics,

So? Maybe it comes with smell-o-vision too. It's still $125.
