"weathered with Harry’s “Restoration Scheme” which features a shiny tender and cab like the restored 611 J, dull black tops where smoke would create coal dirt, and slightly weathered running gear which resulted from use. "

That's the other set of photos.

You haven't yet said that's the thread and those are the photos you are referring to.
I also see when I expand the photo that there is pixelization in the photo...including drivers, ballast....but this is bad, how?

Just saying it is without specifics is a stretch.

"I returned mine for fear I wouldn't be happy with the new paint / decal job and would have no recourse after that. I feel pretty good about my decision. For those who took Lionel up on their offer I hope they are satisfied. I just don't think I would have been. I have moved on. Maybe the next J will be corrected."

So you didn't see the other photos that went with the one you posted?
You didn't see all of the air bubbles under the decal? You didn't see the broken stripes and lettering? You didn't see the poorly done painting on the rear of the tender stripe? You didn't see that "611" is a different color than the stripes? You didn't see the nose falling off? You didn't see that none of the parts on the nose that should be silver were not?

Reading who is doing this remediation.......no surprise.

You know, if you had referenced the TENDER it would have saved some time. Didn't look at that initially.

Stripes look scraped. Handling?

Bubbles, heck, straight pin and decal set.

Better prototypically than the original 746 Lionel.

As far as the nose, the issue was referenced in the thread. It just snaps in on a 746, no screws. Shipping?

I mean, if you wanna pick nits, we can go there.

For me it wasn't a matter of how well Harry's work came out. To me it was just if there was an issue I really had no recourse after the paint fix if I didn't like it. I was definitely not happy about decals being used but that's not on Harry but the fix that was used. I really hope those who are getting them repainted are happy with them.

As fara s the nose, David said it was removed to add the 611 on the lights. Why it's ajar is something David said he'll look into.

Jimmy,

I did not see a special welcome thread for you from the welcoming committee there?

I can't do all of your homework for you.

Stripes look scraped. Handling?
Nope, damaged before shipping. But, maybe I'm assuming too much in that a clear coat was applied to protect the work! If it wasn't, shame on him again!!!

Bubbles, heck, straight pin and decal set.
If I send something off to be painted, I sure don't want to have to repaint when it comes back. Again, if a clear coat has been applied, there is no fixing it without stipping the paint.

Better prototypically than the original 746 Lionel.
Not by a long shot!

Where is the silver...shipping again?

I mean, if you wanna pick nits, we can go there.
There certainly are a lot of nits to pick! This paint job is trash!
And you sound like you too would be happy to get such a poor quality piece of work back into your hands! If I was contracted to do that work, junk like that would never go out of my door.

How do we know it was damaged before shipping? Or clear coated? See your next comment.

Not by a long shot!

Okay, I give. A N&W "J" class had a "746" road number? And short tender stripes?

What silver? Or am I expected to do more homework?

Ya know, nobody I can remember "over there" was complaining. Of course we can't ignore the F-5's Lionel produced for so long, with half chicken wire and half louvers, can we? Or the NP Passenger Set with Loewy Schemed FA's on the point....and I'll give you one guess as to exactly how many FA's the NP had. Or the NP ore cars with black and white Monads.....can you say Woodland Scenics? What it boils down to is what makes the owner happy.
Of course I can do that too....and do...when I visit a car show and see a 32 HiBoy with a Bow Tie under the bonnet, shake my head and walk on.

And that is very sad!
I cannot stand to see people being taken advantage of, and that is exactly what Lionel has done. Still the even sadder part is these people don't know what has hit them. Look at Dave talking about what a great job was done! I would have thought that he of all people would have taken off his rose colored glasses long enough to look and see what a third rate job came back him. Maybe he will wake up. I wish they all would, because this stuff has been dished out by Lionel for far too long!

"Or the NP Passenger Set with Loewy Schemed FA's on the point....and I'll give you one guess as to exactly how many FA's the NP had. Or the NP ore cars with black and white Monads....."
I can't say that I know exactly what you are speaking of here, but, I can guess. I'm thinking fantasy. Am I right? This is something altogether completely different than this Class J crap. These Class J's with their wrong colored stripe should have been recalled to Lionel directly and had the affected parts replaced with FACTORY painted parts. They should have never been outsourced to a third party, whose quality control is as questionable as Lionel's, to be overpainted and decaled.

Maybe. Maybe not. Or they could have recalled them, refunded the money, and crushed them.

Bottom line, for you to get this wound up, what do you have against the painter?

You've made a whole lot of suppositions here....whether or not the stripe was shipping damage or painter damage....unless you've actually inspected the engine in question. Are they all that way? Since the tender in question was not what he is doing, right?, but that particular customer sent his original 746 in to have the stripe extended (remember prototype?) and longer lettering......so one "special" and they're all bad?
Or are the new ones subject to the same tender striping? I don't know, and since I own NO N&W engines....closet is an original Erie FM Trainmaster on demo on my NP line.

How many don't meet your approval?
Do you even HAVE one?
Didn't see you posting there (unless I am not privy to your "handle") and none of your photos.

The owner of the 746 with the loose nose, scratches and bubbles, is happy. That's all that's important, one would think.

The quality of this work is horrible, whoever the painter was.

No suppositions. The photos speak for themselves.

....whether or not the stripe was shipping damage
Shipping no.

or painter damage
The air bubbles make that obvious.

Since the tender in question was not what he is doing, right?
Wrong, the engine & tender have the stripe.

but that particular customer sent his original 746 in to have the stripe extended (remember prototype?) and longer lettering......so one "special" and they're all bad?
If the painter let one bad job out the door, there is a good chance there are more to come. I've seen mismatched stripes in other photos.

Do you even HAVE one?
An earlier one (#606), but, not this version. I also sent back my Lionel 612 because of the backwards "S" and my passenger set with the "Greenie-Stick-Em-A-Windows"!!!

The owner of the 746 with the loose nose, scratches and bubbles, is happy. That's all that's important, one would think.
Again, that is the part of the problem. People just eat up the trash Lionel sends them with a fork & spoon without demanding something better!

Chris,
Thank you for clearing that up.
They don't like people that point out the truth or take people to task over there! That is why they ran away and formed their own clique.
