Just saw this in the news.

"The times they are a changing"

The over three-hour marathon of performances and trophy handouts gathered 18.7 million viewers for CBS on Sunday night, marking the ceremony's lowest rated broadcast ever, according to Nielsen ratings.

This year's broadcast saw a roughly six percent drop from last year's ceremony, which had 19.9 million viewers. However, the Grammys faced a whopping 53 percent drop from 2012, which had 39.9 million viewers.

No surprise. It's amazing that they even bother to actually broadcast it as opposed to just streaming it to the audience that might actually look at it on their phones.

Now that we have more then 6 channels of crap to choose from. Ratings are down for everything. Always seems to be better crap to choose from with on demand.

.....marking the ceremony's lowest rated broadcast ever,......

Well, hopefully that's a good sign. Doubt it, but maybe the world will stop holding entertainers to an almost godlike presence. I love music, but it's gone way over the top since the 50's and 60's.

A late friend of mine made the comment years ago: "America is entertainment starved."

I think he pretty much nailed it. I dumped cable TV, haven't been to a live sporting event since '78, or been to a movie theater this century. Don't miss any of it, most particularly the sports. Paying people millions to play a game.....ridiculous!

Still buy music I like, but that's about the extent of it.

I dunno. If I may contribute this here....Have you seen KD Lang's performance of Leonard Cohen's interpretation of "Hallelujah " at the commemorative show about his music ??
Breathtaking . And breath-giving, IMHO .

I remember Elvis the first time he was on the Ed Sullivan show. They wouldn't show him from the waist down,

And, all of the older generation were appalled and complained, just like that same generation is today. Nothing really changes.

I'm from the 50s generation with the birth of rock and roll where they wanted to ban Alan Freed from promoting rock and roll.

I remember the first record I bought. Blue Suede Shoes by Carl Perkins and I had a pair of those shoes.

2nd record was Long Tall Sally by Little Richard. 3rd was Why do fools fall in love by Frankie Lyman and the teenagers.

My dad would sometimes make fun of some of the songs but he never complained about any that I bought. As a family we watched ( Your Hit Parade ) They would sing the seven top rated popular songs for the week;

The songs back in my generation were more uplifting. Cars, girls, having fun fun fun.

For me I was never much into the lyrics. I just liked the sound of the music

Well, you can see for "miles and miles and miles" and if you get bored you can "paint that red door black". My parents hated these groups and most others from my generation, but their songs seemed to be more upbeat or emotionally charged....but maybe that was just because I was young and they seemed to fit for a generation that was full of awe with an attitude that we can do anything we want.......if we try.

I really don't pay attention to today's music so can't really judge. I will say some of the music (ballads mostly) pumped into my dentists office (he's religious) can really inspire and if you don't listen to the words they could be about anything and are some of the best vocals and music.

I just got the newest album from the who - not bad at all, just a bit different, not unlike the listener vs. many years ago when my generation was a street fighting man and had some sympathy for the devil,

I listen to a lot of today's music, but it's nothing you'll hear on a radio or at any award show. Last dentist visit even the hygienist wanted to change the programming......I'm bringing headphones next time!
