Christmas garden, around 1930-ish:



Lionel 253 and a couple of coaches on a nicely painted board, streetlamps (manufacturer unknown), Lionel bungalow and a few other buildings, Tootsietoys, a Lionel O68 crossing sign, and what looks to be a pond with a fountain and a few fish. Might be a Lionel 90 flag pole.

I remember gas prices like that. In eastern Ohio during the late 1940s and early 1950s gas prices were usually in the 15 to 20 cents range.
Of course with the extra 9/10. We would pool our change to buy gas for our friends that had a car so we could ride around and act stupid.

Here in Maryland, everyone's buying SUV's at ~ $2.50/gal...imagine what they'd be buying at $.141/gal.

Gas is close to $4 a gallon here sometimes up to $5 at expensive stations. Democrats rammed through a 12 cents a gallon tax increase with no input from the voters. We have the highest gas tax in the nation along with most other taxes also the highest.

Put that $0.14 in perspective with what people were being paid. Minimum wage @ $0.25 an hour.
My first Lionel train in 1946 took about 100 hours to pay for. The equivalent today can be had for about 20 hours of work.
