I agree. However my years involved with high school, and other, bands often left little time for me to do other things.
My family understood. Often in July I had a week that was not involved with band. From 1952 until 2005 I did not get
to play with trains because of various personal issues that included work and our kids. I do NOT regret this but little
time was left for other things.
I made one trip to York. It was fun and I met a lot of people.
I think what I regret is not being able to meet so many people that I have "met" on MTJ in person that I consider to be
my friends. Now I am not really physically able to. Don't misunderstand. I am not sick or dying but my few medical
problems do hold me back.I also think that many of the MTJ people are worse off than me healthwise.

After knocking down the last of the Christmas shopping, I spent an hour or so for a walk through the National Cemetery at Gettysburg. One gains some time to reflect on all that has come before:



While I think there might be far better uses for the money (i.e. taking care of our living veterans, for one), you can't help but be moved by the sentiments of the Sgt. Mac Foundation folks.

Hope everyone here manages to stir up a good Christmas. Let 2020 bring "a thunder upon the land".

Christmas for me, this year, which I haven't been sure about at all, for quite a while, now, started right here (a photo I took of our Christmas-decorated Sanctuary to post on MTJ wasn't allowed by the yellow triangle posting interference feature on MTJ ) yesterday, with my leading the Liturgy Committee of our parish in this effort , started right after the finish of the 12noon Mass. Overall, the decorating transformation team-effort took us approximately 2 1/2 hrs. Giving in this way to the entire parish, and indirectly to the surrounding community , as well, became the definition of Christmas for me this year, or so I discovered.

As we finished, I surprised each of the nine volunteers, which included the surprise presence of the two grandchildren of one of the couples , with small gifts to celebrate our enjoyment of such success and sharing, rejoicing at our camaraderie at the perfect time of year for it. The little gifts were working Christmas Tree or Santa music boxes; a couple were globes with little villages surrounded by a circling train, accompanied by "Jingle Bells." I loved seeing the surprise on their faces. Each of them smiled ear-to-ear.

I think that has long been my favorite part of Christmastime, the giving. To me, even the houses decorated with lights for The Season are a giving , a giving by families to their neighbors, and passersby, saying we rejoice at how we are all happy together , celebrating our communal effort at being grateful for the gift of Him.
