Weekend Photos - 12/13/2019

A refurbished Flyer 424 locomotive/tender combination I picked up a few years ago:

Image

Manufactured 1937-1939, as best I can tell this one's a bit of a "frankenstein", incorporating bits from various years' production, while missing a number of others (valve gear is missing on both sides, which seriously depletes some of the action). This one has the 4-wheel trailing truck, or at least it's fitted with one, while the earlier years had just a 2-wheel (which actually looks a bit better, to my mind). Oh, and the tender here is wrong. The earlier versions were paired with an oil tender, the later the coffin style, but with black trucks. This one has the wrong draw-bar as well.

A good project for the eventuality of returning to the basement.

Healey,
Even with all the problems that you mention it is still a nice looking engine.
I don't think most observers would even notice those things unless they were really into them.
I have several messed up pieces that I run and few ever notice the faults.
Does it run?

Runs like a champ, Roger. Over the last few years I've accumulated a number of prewar Flyer locos, all of which are O-gauge. This one is complete except for its valve-gear...might look for a beater just so I can scavenge the bits off it that I need. I haven't been able to find a parts dealer with them in their inventory.
