Hilarious. Betcha the other side of aisle is just as good....or is it just as bad? Either way, they are all pretty inane characters.

Thanks, but you really do mean an elected or appointed official.

Probably should have said PUBLIC servant.
So you want to categorize all civil servants as such then? Sad......since the overwhelming majority are just regular folks just trying to the best they can generally in a less than optimal situation taking a lot of crap from the ignorant masses.

No, but it would take too long to list the ones that are Bozos. Most of the names on the "orator" list would deserve notice.

There's more than 537 of them downtown and then there are all of the appointees......filling the swamp.

Perhaps in the beginning they were regular folks. Once immersed in the culture they become as zombies.Rufus T. Firefly wrote:E7 wrote:Rufus T. Firefly wrote:

Little do you know.......which is what perpetrates both mythology and ignorance.

Re: GREAT ORATORS
Benjamin Franklin was not a "Democrat". There wasn't even a "Democratic Party" for him to be a member of.
Most government employees are no different than their counterparts in the private sector. There are good ones, mediocre ones, and bad ones. Distribution is about the same in both cases. I spent eight years working as a Federal employee (Army Corps of Engineers) and 95+% of the work force were honest and hard working people. They came to work every day and did their jobs to the best of their ability. I also worked briefly for a large private firm and a small private firm. Most of my working career (about 33 years) was as a staff member at a large university. The later was almost a hybrid of government/private sector.
To me, the least desirable environment was working for a small commercial company (about 20 employees). They paid very little and the make up of the work force reflected this (not a normal bell curve in terms of skill sets). The next least desirable was the large private company. We had 1000+ employees and a fair amount of nepotism and work rules that encouraged incompetency (both sides, labor and management). My time spent at the COE in federal service was very similar to my time spent at the university, maybe a little more "rigid" as we were still part of the Army and worked under military as well as general government rules/regulations.

Re: GREAT ORATORS
The difference, of course, is that in a private company it is possible to fire the incompetent or non-productive...unless, of course, they're protected by Affirmative Action.

Or nepotism or cronyism or a bunch of other ism's. I saw more incompetent/non productive employees in the private sector than I ever did in the public sector. The district engineer's (full bird colonels) that were in charge of our office had a very low tolerance for incompetence. You screwed up and you had to answer for it. The large private firm I worked for had a lot of dead weight and no one in charge was going out of their way to trim the fat.

It's just as possible in the Gov't, too, despite the mythology that folks want to believe. In fact, over the past 20 years it's gotten a lot easier since everyone is hired provisionally and can be cut loose in the 1st year w/o any cause at all.
My experience in the private sector differed very little.
