As Rufus says, it's all about the money. Nobody really cares about Hong Kong or what goes on in China. Look at all the people complaining about the tariffs. People want to buy cheap. They don't care if what they buy is made with forced child labor.

It's not just the tarriffs causing the problems. When Trump started this, China enjoyed a 7:1 advantage in trade, saddling us with a monstrous deficit. Our markets were wide open to them, and theirs are very restricted to us. Plus, you must remember all of China's theft of intellectual property of the U.S., accounting for literally hundreds of billions in profit for China. So the Trumpman is negotiating trying to achieve parity, while China wants to be the worlds' top dog. There's a few hundred places in the world where American business could have products manufactured, (including right here), and many of them would do it cheaper than China as they try to get their economies up and running. Why cater to the Hammer & Sickle? I'm sure you've all read or heard how China dictates exactly how a business will be run. Business's should be working diligently, (or at least planning), to leave the Commie country. The only reason they allow limited capitalism is to siphon off the cash to increase the size and stature of their military.

If Americans change their mindset, China is in trouble. There us so much stuff on the secondary market. No need to buy new crap.
Stop at a garage sale. You’ll see it. So many people over consumed unnecessary things. You could buy every holiday gift you need. Still in the box , unopened and never used. Kids toys, kitchenware and clothes. Buy used and help slow down the trade deficit.

No need to conjure up an answer Murph, we have two sources that reveal the answer to your question, Wikipedia and the Bible.
