No one gives a dead sewer rat's asss about who or what you feel respect for, only the respect you show others. You say you're a scientist, yet you fall back on such a fallacy of ambiguity? But, you go on ahead and tell other Americans how to, and how not to express themselves. See what it gets you.

That is, in that message, you are preaching to Rufus about respect, and you do so being deliberately disrespectful to him in your choice of words (one of your techniques, well-honed,) "no one gives a dead sewer rat's ***...", and in the overall message. You are aware of a bit of personal information about him so you use it to talk-down to him and to try to belittle or shame him. I take exception to that. It may fit your tone, but it does not fit the tone of the communication up to that point, IMO. But hey. That is your right, huh.

Actually, I have a high regard for scientists in general, and particularly ones who come up with new medications. I also do expect a greater appreciation of logic from a scientist.

As for the confusion over the different senses of the word "respect", this may be due, in part, to something of an American character trait. I myself sometimes find it difficult to show respect to someone I don't feel respect for - even though I fully support their right to free expression. However, I was not attempting to be disrespectful, or to talk down, preach, belittle or shame.

Barney and Betty Hill were an American couple who claimed they were abducted by extraterrestrials in a rural portion of the state of New Hampshire from September 19 to September 20, 1961. It was the first widely publicized report of an alien abduction in the United States.

The incident came to be called the "Hill Abduction" and the "Zeta Reticuli Incident" because the couple stated they had been kidnapped by aliens who claimed to be from the Zeta Reticuli system. Their story was adapted into the best-selling 1966 book The Interrupted Journey and the 1975 television movie The UFO Incident. In September 2016, plans were announced to make a film based on the events, with an unknown release date.

Every so often, I keep getting a notice on my computer screen that "suggests" I download Chrome Browser.
Should I do this? Why? What good comes out of it for me?

What browser do you use now? Does it do all that you desire and are you happy with it? If yes, then do nothing.

I have Chrome but use it rarely. Some like/prefer it. Some like/prefer Firefox. Some are happy with IE.

The IE that I am stuck with at my office is limited and will not work with some sites; Hence, there I do use Chrome for some actions.

I believe google chrome to be a safe site. It’s not some far away hacker trying to pry away your info. With that said. If your computer works fine . Leave it be.no need to change if things work fine.

Ps. Im not a computer geek. When i change things nothing works till my wife fixes it.
