Yes, indeed, "vanity" pegs it. Even as a boy, I always felt she was a cartoon of herself, or of what she imagined she was, even when she was "humorous," a vulgar tart, constantly in search of......

Maybe you underestimate her - clever enough to know what part/role/character she could play and to do so successfully forever is probably a lot more than many can begin to aspire to achieving.
Evil cannot create anything new, it can only corrupt and ruin what good forces have created or made.

Murph, didja ever see the movie about Mae West. Ann Jillian played the lead, (before breast cancer) and it was pretty good, I thought. Showed a lot about the way things were in the early 20th century, and the way she got treated by the "holier than thou" crowd in those days. She was actually very mild compared to what folks call entertainment today. Those Puritans would be having cardiacs if they saw what's on TV today.
