Whatzit?
Re: Whatzit?
Nothing to do with Edison.
Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light in a vacuum. Light does slow down in things like water and glass. If you have a particle with sufficient energy (say an electron or proton) it could move through the denser medium (e.g. water) at a speed greater than the speed of light for that medium. When this happens, you get Cherenkov radiation (that weird blue glow).

My first view I thought, "Bible." Then I scrolled down and immediately remembered where I saw that ... Jimi Hendrix, 52 West 8th Street, New York. The address is on the door ....
Hi Wayne, Totally intriguing that you "immediately remembered where …" you saw that unique façade. I went past it innumerable times back-in-the-day(s) of old. Were you there, too, back when a very cult-popular movie played a few doors down the street from Electric Lady Studio, the one where certain clothing was worn and various lines were repeated by the audience at certain favorite times during each showing of...??!...Whatzit?......That is, what is this campy icon...

RHPS.......Never saw it, never want to see it! First time I heard them singing Let's do the Time Warp, sounded like they were saying: Let's do the Fly Walk......

I thought our TRIGA was producing particles that exceeded the speed of light.
Seems to me that intensifies would be a better word than propagates. Whatever the case, I don't think we're exceeding the speed of light. Scotty, give us warp 7!![]()

Only one that could do that was Cool Papa Bell who could flick the light switch and be in bed before the light went out! That per Satchel Paige I think!
The energy in the electron does not intensify, it loses energy as it plows through the space between water molecules, traveling less than a meter.
Speed of light in vacuum: 299,792,458 m/s
Speed of light in water: 225,000,000 m/s
Speed of electron from underwater nuclear generator: 250,000,000 m/s
The electron is not exceeding the speed of light in a vacuum but it is exceeding the speed of light in water. Just as an airplane exceeding the speed of sound in air produces a shock wave, the electron exceeding the speed of light in water produces a shock wave. The shock wave pumps up the energy in the water's electrons. Then, as the electrons fall back to their normal state, they emit a photon. Why blue light? The high energy that produced the shock wave is enough to charge the water's electrons to a high energy state (blue end of the spectrum) so we see blue light.

This campy icon is, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." Rocky Horror has played at the Loft Theater every Saturday night for forty years here in Tucson (and still is.)
I have never been to New York, NY. I did part-time work for recording studios in Hollywood and Wilshire District of Los Angeles just before moving to Tucson. The owners of the local studios talked about and showed photos of Jimi Hendrix and his friend's Electric Lady Studio. The LA studios did not think they were charging so much for "studio time" that Hendrix could justify the amount of money spent on all the latest recording equipment just to avoid the "high cost" of studio time. How prophetic, Hendrix used his studio once before dying.

I like movies to take me somewhere I have never been and/or will likely never find myself adrift in.
" Rocky Horror (aptly named) Picture Show" did that for me and my wife.

You bet!
And did you want to tell me about your Electric Lady familiarity,
Re: Whatzit?
Well since you brought the "The Rocky Horror Picture Show." into the thread I thought you might find this amusing.
Just for FUN from the Drew Carey show.

A great innovative film, but what are we up to now....Alien 27 or is it Aliens vs Godzilla???

Interesting. Thanks for added perspective.
Re: Whatzit?
Back to the thing is in a north east NJ suburb.
It looks like a brick water tank, maybe there was brickyard there at one time, and they made the tank out of bricks.
Here is a smaller but fancier water tower made out of bricks:

Re: Whatzit?
Sorry, no, but a reasonable guess.
The one in NJ is only three stories tall. It's also 25-30 feet in diameter. No windows, no doors, no way in or out unless you bring a long ladder.
Exact location is 40 degrees 48' 52"N x 73 degrees 59' 57" W
The object predates the housing development, the four homes that surround it have quite a conversation piece for their back yard.
