If somebody managed or manages to manufacture something negative to complain about regarding that adorable robot costume on that wonderful kid who is simply having some anticipated Halloween fun, they need to take up alcohol-abuse or simply get-over-themselves. IMunHO

Should Megyn Kelly come under such hot fire for not understanding "blackface" or "whiteface" is a way of promoting prejudice? I think not. Just explain to her the current thought on the subject and let it go, her thoughts on the subject were innocent of any prejudice. [opinion]
According to Wikipedia, she graduated from Syracuse University in 1992, the year before I graduated from the same institution. She would have quickly learned back then that blackface was unacceptable. There was (and still is) a very visible African-American Studies department on campus and, as Kelly was was a poly-sci major, she would have spent most of her time in the the Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs (wikipedia)

We all have our own take on what we were taught in school. Megyn does not find black or white face Halloween costumes offensive. She differentiates dressing in costumes from deliberately making fun of other races.

Wayne,
I thought that was also what I heard from her.

Summary quote representing sentiments from previous posts

does not find black or white face Halloween costumes offensive.

If you read her original statements and her apology it's more in the vein of where/when I was brought up this wasn't something we thought about/considered, aka she was not being deliberately racist/insensitive. She acknowledged in the apology that as an adult she does now know that is no longer the case and that she could/should have explicitly prefaced her remarks accordingly, e.g. "When I was a child, ......" or, "When I was growing up, .....",.

I accept her apology/explanation at it's face value and I do not believe she was deliberately being divisive or that she intentionally tried to harm anyone else. Having said that, she is a public figure that was highly paid to run her mouth on network TV. She really needs to carefully weigh what she says when doing shows like the ones she was doing on NBC.

They (NBC) dumped her because she conveniently gave them an excuse. To them this was all about the money. She was being paid a lot and they no longer felt she was worth it. Thanks for playing, don't let the door hit your butt on the way out. IMHO they (NBC) were seriously misusing her talents. Those very attributes that made her an asset for interviewing people in a hard news or a news magazine setting became very dicey when you have her working shows that were nothing like that. This was magnified to a higher degree when you consider NBC's target audience for the shows she was working.

I'm more PO'd because

a) they (NBC brass) used this incident as an excuse to cover their mistakes regarding their bottom line and

b) that they seem to be getting away with it.

Firing someone under the guise of racial insensitivity when it demonstrably isn't only makes things worse. It feeds into the very divisiveness they are allegedly trying to avoid.

It should be obvious that this is, as usual, all about the money. She is young, attractive, and very talented (all attributes TV likes). I am sure she will land on her feet.

Honestly though, does anyone really care all that much about this other than to troll for responses? She's going to make gobs of money working somewhere and the memory of the average person is only slightly shorter than a sighting of the next squirrel...........

Even a major pancake mix company rethought its logo-image. Maybe that indicates plenty of re-thinking is in order for a myriad of matters.

Symbolism has been taken seriously for decades, now. Fists held upward. Taking a knee. Throwing Purple Heart medals over fences at government buildgs.
Wearing blackface? Whothehell still thinks that is still OK? Somebody waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too self-absorbed in their own myopic world? Huh?

We are judging history based on today's standards.

Al Jolson performed in blackface and it was acceptable in his day. He brought African American music to the the center stage and opened up the doors for many blacks to become performers. There were many blacks that admired Al for what he had done for them. Today he is condemned as a racist.

Read the whole story and see what you think.

My purpose in posting about Megayn was to point out the double standard that exist. She got condemned and fired for what she said and others have done far worse and they get away with it. And that relates to whether you are liberal or conservative

Not really. They're all the same underneath of the facade and both are up to their gills in double standard behavior, fabrications, lies, and deception.

This is the video of the segment about Halloween costumes that got Megyn in trouble.

Would it be acceptable for African Americans to do white face for any reason. Are there acceptations when it can be done :?:

What are you saying Hondo74? Is your message that black people should not be allowed to wear traditional mime white face because they are black?
