Seventy-Six today but PhotoBuckt's datetime code on it is 7/23/2013, 1:10:19 PM making the legs in the picture 5 years, 3 months younger. Do you have a different date?

Dates shmates. It's the youthfulness of dem legs that counts, and they are the legs of a 20-something year old, 30 at the most. True dat!

How tall is this cactus? :P

Maybe, roughly as tall as the one I moved inside the house Sunday; just ~8 feet tall brushing the ceiling of the foyer.

How much does yours weigh? The one Murph is showing is not that tall but it it weighs ~1,000 lbs.

Never weighed it, but it's in an 18" pot and I can just barely get it up over the step to bring it in - has to be tilted when that's done, of course, to get it through the doorway - Opuntia brasiliensis - closing on 40 years old; grew it from a single leaf cutting.

The one in my Whatzit Whatabout this here, is almost as tall as a man...
This one seems to like the fella who stopped to say Hello - it's leaning toward him...

How do you handle an Opuntia brasiliensis? The thorns on the leaves are tiny torture and on the trunk puncture demons.

Ok, picking up the pot I don't handle it at all,

Person handling the tilted in top wears good leather gloves and uses a towel folded up to cradle the entire top of the plant.

Also, this is not a slow process - grab/drag, tilt, lift, slide in and stand upright. Done!

Why would somebody want a large cactus in the house? What's the attraction?

Really? Consider that keeping alive might be the primary reason. That way I have next year to put back outside. I have ~20 cacti and succulents in the house now.

Obviously, you have never been in Rufus' foyer. It is filled with man-eating, poisonous and barbed-spine covered plants.

And I don't know if you can see it, just to the left of center, but there is something else in there.

While perhaps a pleasant thought, to the best of my knowledge non are man eating although that might be useful at some point to deal with those unwanted visitors.

It is public knowledge that you were the one who purchased, at movie studio auctions, the plants used in the following movies.

Seedpeople (1992) The citizens of Comet Valley are being taken over by seeds from an alien plant that has taken root there.

Venus Flytrap (1970) A mad scientist uses thunder and lightning to turn carnivorous plants into man-eating creatures.

Attack of the Killer Tomatoes! (1978) A group of scientists band together to save the world from mutated killer tomatoes.

Please Don't Eat My Mother! (1973) A middle-aged man buys a plant with a sexy voice that develops a craving for insects, frogs, dogs, and humans.

Little Shop of Horrors (1986) A nerdy florist finds his chance for success and romance with the help of a giant man-eating plant who demands to be fed.

The Day of the Triffids (1963) After an unusual meteor shower leaves most of the human population blind, a merchant navy officer must find a way to conquer tall, aggressive plants which are feeding on people and animals.

Do you think we are going to believe that you do not keep those plants in your foyer?

You are free to believe whatever pleases you. All I have are cacti and succulents, and far fewer of those now than at any time.

In a week or 3 I will also have to dig up the canna lilies and elephant ear plants so that they can winter in the basement, too. I have too many of each....every year so it seems when it comes time to plant them in the Spring.

OK, I apologize. I didn't know you kept Audrey II and the others in the basement.

Nope and Nope!

Those are strictly NYC and NJ phenomenon and more Murph's territory than mine. He deflecting us away from what's really under his layout.....
